How come the bully and his target beat me up?

I am a 17-year old male highschool student. Public highschool is fun and that is the type of highschool I attend.
Catholic private highschools look creepy to me. I am glad that I don't attend those places.
I have friends at school and we love hanging out in different places.
I am a fan of the New York Rangers Hockey team. I was born and raised in New York.


Anyways, here is the main part of my answer:


How come a bully single handedly beat me and my 3 friends up even though we outnumbered him in a fight? Aren't bullies just cowards who pick on weaklings? Even his target also beat me up after the target's MMA class. Why is this?

I and my 3 friends are not bullying targets but me and my 3 friends fought the bully due to me and my 3 friends’ misunderstanding with the bully’s fellow highschool rugby teammates. The reason why no one is bullying me or my 3 friends is because I and my 3 friends are all normal while his target is different from most kids.

As for me getting into a fight with the bullying target, it's also because of a misunderstanding.

Why is this? How come the bully and his target beat me up? I thought that bullies are only cowards who pick on weaklings while their targets are weaklings. What happened? Did I do something wrong?
