another old painting identification

can anyone give me any information at all on this painting, It has been in my wife's family for forever it seems and no one knows the origin of it any more. appx age artist, any information at all will be appreciated

P.S. the date on the side is of the photo not the painting,,, lol

Personally it has a 19th century feel to me. Perhaps French , Academy style?

It is a painting by Peter Picklebody [1804-1904]. He painted that in his final years in what many art historians call the "spiritual enema" stage of his career as he was suffering from a bout of extreme dogmatic constipation.

The painting was entitled "Smooth move."

Find an Antique Show on the net that is close to where you live, and take it to them. They may give you some information.
