I'm trying to remember an old poem (by Tennyson?) that has lines similar to this:

From the poor man at his ____, to the rich man at his gate.
God made them ...

It's a way those in power use religion to stay there.

In the sci fi film Beneath The Planet Of The Apes a corrupted version is sung, instead of the lord god making things the bomb is destroying them.
