This came from my company. Just thought I'd post it here to let people know.
Quote:CSC has detected a virus in the Steel network. PCs have been impacted at NZS and Lysaghts, so far no PKSW PCs have been infected.
The virus can be spread by email - via an attachment called NEW_YEAR.EXE
The virus can be detected and removed by our anti-virus software - please make sure that you have signature 4.0.4252 or greater.
Perhaps you'll find info in Snopes.
Try "snopes" for info about this virus. I did a search with NEW_YEAR.EXE but nothing came up. If you find something, please post back here. Thanks for the heads-up.

IT'S A REAL VIRUS - NOT A HOAX!
This IS a real virus - NOT a hoax. When I went off line last night, I checked the virus definitions in my Symantec Virus Program. Yep, NEW_YEAR.EXE is there!!! I tried to copy out the info that came up in order to put it here, but was unable to do so. At least I know that the constantly updated version of Symantec's VirusScan running here IS protecting this computer.
Here is Symantec's hoax page for FUTURE reference.

Thanks again, Wilso. Good wishes. Charli
THANKS, TGR!
Thanks, TGR! I don't remember or know how the apocope happened: the dropping of the final e. Too long ago ... or maybe the name always was just "Charli" - spelled that way, I mean. Can't think of anyone who ever added an "e" - which is unusual in itself. You know how many times names are misspelled. Kinda neat that you noticed it. Thanks again! :-)
Thanks, c.i., for the web site. Got it bookmarked.
