Today's Republican Party scares the living **** out of me.
I recently had a private message exchange with Ana Navarro, high profile “republican strategist” and semi-regular panelist on the tv show The View. I had challenged her on Twitter (can’t call it ‘X’) to explain why she stays a Republican. I asked her “what Republican policies or candidates do you support?” And I told her that it was puzzling to me, because on every issue I’d ever heard her take a side on, she came down on the Democratic side.
She refused to respond publicly, but to my surprise very soon I received a Twitter inbox message from her. She was very gracious, going on about how honored she was to get to interact with “a fan”. But she side-stepped answering my question about why she stays Republican, saying it was for private reasons that she didn’t feel comfortable talking about.
I have definite ideas about the phenomenon of all these fire-breathing so-called republicans like Navarro and several others, who are sardonically critical of Trump and the Republican Party, but who decline to remove the “Republican” appellation from their names. I think it’s a cold calculated grift, exploiting the lucrative novelty of being one of “the republicans who takes republicans to task”.
They risk nothing, and get to put themselves forward as heroes. I hold them in the same low regard as I do all those Trump supporting scammers and schemers who either directly worked for him or worked in support of him. They were with him in word and deed, right up until they heard the first creaking of the gravy ship beginning to sink. Then they all got a ghost writer and an agent and started writing their cheesy tell-alls, and touring the MSNBC circuit.
