I think I remember the princess - but my memory in my old age - couples with the gazzillions of women who I love, is preventing me from making a definitive recognizition !!

Reinhard von Tubingen... what a wonderful name! A heartfelt greeting from Gustav Ratzenhofer. (I think our dads may have been friends)

The name Ratzenhofer sounds somewhat familiar to me, however I'm not sure if my father knew anyone by that name.

I would advise that you not make a habit of taking seriously anything Mr. Rattzy writes--he is a notoriously disingenuous capybara herder, with a pathological compulsion to aggrandize himself . . .

Hey, Rheinhard, is not Regensburg the same city once known as Ratisbon, on the Danube? If so, do you know why the name was changed? If not, are you prepared to ignore my silliness?

If you allow, Set, I'll just give some facts and no reasons:

The oldest name of Regensburg is "Radasbona" and was used by the Celts.

This was changed by the Romans to "Castra Regina". (179 AD)

The Adolfinger called it "Reganespurc" in the 6th century and created the first bavarian dukedom there.

TMI, Boss . . . i only know that when one reads about Napoleonic campaigns, and those of Marlborough, the city is referred to as Ratisbon. Same spot on the map as Regensburg, so i assume someone changed the name within the last two hundred years . . . just bein' nosey . . .

Just framed a 1595 map of Ortelius (well, a copy, unfortunately): there it says like today: Regensburg.

It seems that Ratisbonne is just the French translation - "my" (framed as well, but this time an original) 'Permis de Port-D'Armes' from 1809 is sealed by the "Préfectur de Fulde", which is Fulda.
[Had to be renewed in 1813, do you think, I still could ask for that?]

How is Ratisbonne a French translation of Regensburg? This seems unlikely. Just wondering.

'Translation' might not be the appropriate word, Mc. Something like 'transliteration' would probably be closer. The french probably had difficulty pronouncing the suffix '-burg.'
