Valuable objects in hostels [theft?]

Reply Fri 16 Jun, 2023 12:53 am
I am going to a hostel in spain, I have some valuable objects that I really don't want to lose: a new iPhone and mac as gifts for someone.

Do you think the risk is big? is there any way I can safely enjoy my short vacation there without worrying or be stolen?
I thought about leaving them in the reception, but then I thought maybe the reception guy/girl is a part timer and could disappear and sell them out for a 4 or 5 months of his salary (I AM GETTING PARANOID Very Happy)
(it's a 2days stopover before going to my main destination)
Thank you.

@Erasmus18,
Carry them with you. Ask if they have a safe and get a receipt.

@Erasmus18,

Some hostels have safes to keep valuables. And if you can't trust the employees? There's no convincing you otherwise. Spain ain't a 14th world country. Weird that you can afford giving a new iPhone and Mac computer as gifts and not afford a hotel where you can trust its employees not to steal your junk.

@tsarstepan,
One of my questions, as well. Someone has a girl friend and a slim billfold.

@bobsal u1553115,
Yeah, I've never had anything stolen from any hostel, hotel, or B&B and I've only ever had two with a safe, which I never even used.

@Mame,
I never have either, but I do take precautions.

@tsarstepan,
Maybe I am exaggerating in my message, I am obviously convincible, otherwise I would not have asked the question. Plus I am going anyway, I just thought forums are place to express our deep concerns/fears freely, and receive constructive feedback about it.

@bobsal u1553115,
Sorry not sure to understand the meaning of "slim billfold"

@Erasmus18,
It's a skinny wallet - it's not as obvious as a regular one. Room for your ID, a card or two, and a few bills.
