I'm sure you can guess, but there's another reason I use an Ayn Rand quote
I like what JLN said about Rand romanticizing her paragons of individual creativity -- she went way out on the limb with "Atlas Shrugged" as there are simply no parallels to any leaders of industry. They have all had their feet of clay. The same for political leaders. Her basic premise is right but later in life, as I've said before, even she fell back on attempting to create some pan-deist religion that simply didn't shake. Of course, one should try to be objective but there's much to be said about subjectivism. They both have their own set of generalities that tries to advocate that "one size fits all." The problem is in the character of Howard Roark in "The Fountainhead" -- he is virtuous but and totally in love with himself. We know where that lead with the model, Frank Lloyd Wright, where his personal life was a shambles. He basicaly screwed enough of his friends for money to survive. "The Fountainhead" is still, as far as the subject in his discussion, a great read for anyone trying to understand how the creative mind works and how it finds its way in our society.
Violet Lake<
Completely off the topic of
Mrs. Rand here.
Your lovely violet avatar is gone to be replaced by the flickering candle.
Maybe you have explained the loss of the violet before, but I really miss it. It was a touching reminder of the petiteness of nature.
william, the violet didn't go anywhere... just wanted to try a different avatar for a little while
violet
VL, of course you can change your avatar anytime you wish, but I hope you don't. It provides a moment of visual peace.

The candle avatar was nice, though it was a visual cliche.
I'm so glad you brought back the violet. I liked what JL had to say about it, too.
Since you both like it so much, I'll leave it alone
Really it is nice VL, a sweet reminder of spring.
Picasso saw the artist as a receptacle.....
"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the
place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from
a passing shape, from a spider's web."

Wonderful quote, SP. I would add that the artist is also a receptacle for aesthetic possibilities.
