That which burrows deep under earth,
flies higher than the highest peak.
A precious gift or a dreadful curse.
And that which all must seek.
Today it may be soft as silk, as gentle as a flower
Tomorrow it may be hard as stone, yielding deadly power.

@steve reid,
I'm sorry, that's incorrect. Good guess though. The answer is a physical thing.

@Gollumscave,
Thank you.

When you said it was something physical I got it quite eadily, before then I was clueless.

I a bit miffed that you didn't accept my lightswitch answer.

I don't touch the light to turn it on, I touch the switch, and in the middle of the night it's too dark to see it.

@izzythepush,
Hahaha, yeah I'm sorry. It was a clever guess and it was really close. In defense of the riddle though, light really is the only physical thing that absolutely must "touch you" before you can see it. A light switch can be seen in a case where it is illuminated by another light, and you must be the one to touch it. If the answer were light switch, it wouldn't be totally true, and kind of a trick question (I suppose all riddles are trick questions).
