I'm currently shopping for a used car and have been trying to follow the advice of my mechanic and friends by concentrating on Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, and Nissan Maximas. I tried to deal with a dealer on an 02 Accord EX (loaded) with 37k miles but couldn't get them to budge off the $15,995 price. After that I looked at another local dealer and see an 05 Taurus SE with 18k for only $13,900 that I'm tempted to consider. What would you do? Are the Accords and Camrys of the world really worth the extra money?
The Honda Accord is the best normal little car being sold in America over the last 15 years.
My brother is an auto wholesaler and I get to drive pretty much everything which rolls just helping him move cars around to the auctions at Fredericksburg Va and Manheim Pa at times. I've driven any number of Accords with 160K to 200+ K miles on them which are still tight as drums and indistinguishable from new by the way they drive and feel. They're roomy, tall-friendly, fast, and feature superb handling and visibility, and they get about 35 mpg on the highway. Even the ones which are abused (like southeast DC cars) still run good as a general rule.
For a $3k price difference between an Accord and a Taurus, don't even consider the Taurus.
One other thing, you don't need a 6-cylindar motor on the Accord; the ones with the fours are more than quick enough.
anyone else care to weigh in on this?

I am on my 2nd Accord. They are great cars. I don't even consider the Taurus in the same league with the Accord. When I traded in my 2001 Accord a few months ago, the dealer was delighted. He told me that he would have it certified, and would sell it with a warrantee.
Why is someone selling an '05 Taurus? Is something wrong with it? I am always suspicious of someone who gets rid of a car in less than a year.
