I am aware that the rate of gun ownership in the U.S. is very high.
When did it become so high?
Did purchases surge during particular periods? During the campaigns by African Americans for Civil Rights?
Do the official statistics for each year, start with the gun ownership rate for the prior year, then add the number of guns sold in the subject year? Subtract anything? Are the resulting numbers valid?
@gollum,
While gun ownership is high, it is actually decreasing when measured by individual households. But the number of gun
purchases has increased dramatically. The largest surges have followed mass shootings when people start calling for controls on sales and particular types of weapons.
