but its tuesday when he gets to Albaturkey and its closed. He stops at the Stuckey's for coffee, more cold pizza and chases it down with a diet Dr. Pepper. Outside he attempts to start the CLK but, damn the plugs are fouled again. He spots the Route 66 M tel (weekly rates) grabs the bag and walks off. "Another night in paradise" he mutters to the night clerk, "What time's check out?" he asks. "Where's the nearest liquor store?"

Mona is missing Nick and sings to herself consolingly:

"Maybe it happens this way. Maybe we really belong together
but after all, how little we know. Maybe it's just for a day.
Love is as changeable as the weather and after all, how little we
know. Who knows why an April breeze never remains. why stars in
the freeze hide when it rains. Loves come along , casting a
spell. Will it sing you a song will it say a farewell? Who can
tell? Maybe you're meant to be mine, maybe I'm only supposed to
stay in your arms awhile, as others have done. Is this what I've
waited for? Am I the one? Oh I hope it's so, in spite of how
little we know. "

Meanwhile Dys returns to his Nick personna frightening Lola so much her pout vanishes into a thin scream ........

OK, we'll do it your way, Dys......never let it be said I'm headstrong in any way. giggle

As Nick eats his pizza he feels a presence behind him. A cold chill runs down his plaid flannel shirted back. Turning, he sees him. Nick suddenly misses Mona and wishes she was beside him now. He senses somehow that she's missing him too.

"Oh, hi there, man," says Nick. "How've ya been anyway? I was wonderin about you as I drove into town. Still workin as a guard at the State Penitentiary?

As the man takes a seat next to Nick at the bar, Nick wishes he could be in Cafe 101..........a new thread under creative writing, sponsored by Lola and Wassau.

Nick pines, he knew he shoulda taken the literacy class at the library but he could read the man like a book. Dropping a quech in the juker he hits F9, Bob Dylan singing "Oklahoma, where the wind comes swooping down the plain" pours a sappy tom in his beer and fumbles in his pocket for a fresh Sherman's Virgina Circle. Damn, he thinks to himself the only real cigartte made in America and they come from New York City. The bar fills with off duty insurance salesmen, a welder and a hoochie coochie singing "I don't smoke and I don't chew and i don't go with guys that do". Nick feels totally alienated, not even a green card. A library card punched one too many times. Mona had dumped him for some slicker with two-tones.

Nick thought, "I've gotta get outta Huntsville. They don't have a thing worth doin here......all they got is a penitentiary, A Dairy Queen, a few motels, a big lake down the highway at Conroe and a great big city named Houston, and after that..........the Gulf of Mexico......

"Hummmm," said Nick, under his breath. "Maybe I can pick up a six pack and find a motel in Galveston. There's probably some women down there on the beach. If only I'd gotten a better education!"

At that moment, a woman of unusual proportions sits down next to our Nicky and says, "you're new around here aren't ya?"

Nick was nervous. The very act of a female sitting down next to him and actually beginning a conversation - of any kind - was soooo out of his realm of connectivity with the real world that he desperately failed miserably in any infinitesimal attempt at normalcy. He blurted, "

Finally controlling himself, Nick thought of Mona. This woman who was introducing herself to him as Sabrina made him think about how Mona wouldn't be happy if she could see him now. He remembered working at the K-Mart, or was that the Krogers, in Lubbock, no.......maybe Midlothian, he could no longer remember.

"Hi there, I said," Sabrina said. "What's the matter, cat got your tongue?"

"OK," thought Nick, "so she's not of great intellect, but what could you expect in Huntsville?"

As it turns out, Sabrina was trying colloquially to blend in with the current populace. She had had too many times in the past let it out that her IQ was 152. It had led to disaster in some of her past partisanships so she was of necessity apprehensive.

Nick, at Sabrina again looked. He thought to himself, 'sexy is she.'

The author Hiama thinks to himself how come someone else has the same IQ as me !

He then realises he needs to be in character, he would really like to be in the character played by Kim Basinger in 9 1/2 weeks , he then realises he isn't just thinking this he is also typing this on a public internet form and would certainly be considered by some as sexist, puerile and that this would not be in keeping with the general standard expected, so he leaves it in anway. Embarrassed

Mona arrives on the scene, just in time. Seeing Nick and then noticing the posting by the author, she tells the author that she thinks she may be able to accomodate him.

Nick sees Mona and the author sitting together talking and wonders. He thinks to himself, 'she looked at me when she came - then she went straight to where that kinky looking author is and now they are talking about sex. Hmmmm?'
