I'm embarrassed to say it, but I'm a NY Strangers fan.

i'm not at all embarrassed to say i used to be.

i started following them in '74 -- towards the end of that magical time when they were a great team that could never quite get over the hump.

jim gordon did the no-nonsense play-by-play, while bill "the big whistle" chadwick was always good for a few laughs every game, mis-pronouncing those long canadien names Smile

then they went and got espo(!); dumped giacomin, park, ratelle, et al.

by the time messier + co resurrected the franchise, i'd all but lost interest.
(accourse that didn't stop me from jumping on the bandwagon one last time in '94!)

It's official, the NHL is back on ice! All the NHL teams played tonight.

Boston lost to the Habs in the last minute of play!!!
Patrice Bergeron scored a magnificent goal for Boston though.

Ottawa won against Toronto, as they came back from a one goal lead, and another one goal lead, to lead it to the first ever shootout in the NHL. Alfredson and Heatley scored for Ottawa, and won it. The final score was 3-2 (OT).

The Rangers won against Philadelphia a comeback, and Jagr scored twice for the Rangers. (I made a mistake in my other post regarding Jagr leaving the NHL, well he did not folks).

Washington won against Columbus, as Ovechkin scored twice for the Capitals. The race for the Calder Trophy is on.

Pittsburgh lost to New Jersey, but Crosby did have a great assist on a Mark Recchie goal.

Defending champ, Tampa Bay won against Carolina.

Calgary lost to Minnesota. That was a surprise for some.

Vancouver won against Phoenix 3-2. Wayne Gretzky coached an NHL game for the first time.

Edmonton won against Colorado.

Los Angeles, who was leading 4-0 lost to Dallas by the score of 5-4

San Jose lost to Nashville

Anaheim won against chicago

Buffalo won against NY Islanders (first goal of season in this game)

Detroit won against St. Louis

Florida won against Atlanta

I forgot how much I enjoy listening to Pat Foley do play by play for the Blackhawks. He could make figure skating sound exciting.

Looks like there are going to be a lot of goals scored with the new rules.

As much as I love to watch, I wouldn't pay to go to most pro games. The last event I saw was a Monarchs hockey game in Manchester during their first season (LA "farm" team).
I have it on TV many nights.

It isn't the same anymore... Crying or Very sad

I give up! Might watch some games on TV but I am now officially converted to AAA hockey.

I think this hockey rule might be better... except for the shootout (but it does make it more interesting).

First two fights of my season between Bruins and Panthers - they're all a bit rusty, but it's almost like the old days...

Didn't see Rangers-Islanders, but I'm glad to hear
that Winthrop's own Rick DiPietro is back.

Da Broons face the Sabers tonight. I like their
chances if they can just keep their heads in the
game all three periods.

Yeah DiPietro stood his ground. Rangers were all over the ice, but took bad penalties got them down 1 - 0 in the beginning.
