Hey, I'll be in Vienna next Thursday too ... but i think the plan is to go to the museum in the evening, cos its open till 9. But perhaps before that, what time is your presentation Dag? Or afterwards, depending on the last train back to Pest...

Eh ... I'm going with Susannah, and we're supposed to go museum-watching and clothes-shopping, so I'm afraid I wont be able to actually attend your presentation ... but perhaps we can find you back sometime after so you can tell me all about it ...

Ehm, no wait, thats not going to help with your deadline, is it. So, wait, I mean: Yes, I might be there too in the audience, so you'd better start preparing!! Twisted Evil

Geez! Who knew so many people travel to Wein (where is Wein anyway?)?

Dag, do you still want the option of crashing here while you're in town?

And Dagmar made it into the the news:

http://science.orf.at/science/news/142188

meeting sublime (and maybe nimh?) in the evening tomorrow. ul, wanna join us when you're done with the reception? i guess those can stretch. i need to pack somewhere in between the talk and the bar crawl. leaving for boston in the am on friday.

finishing a chapter, preparing a 10-15 page extract to go with the talk and a powerpoint presentation... what are the chances of finishing? maybe i should just battle the latter two....but but but i'm on a roll with my chapter. chapter is more important.... grrrrr. someone decide for me!

Well, on the news site, there's just a short summary, but on the science site they are only publishing what you actually wrote ("by Dagmar"!):

You'll be fine. You and E.G. seem to approach these things very similarly and if he is in your state of mind, as prepared as you are (or lack thereof) one day before a talk, he'll kill.

If he prepares too far ahead of time he just doesn't have that extra spark that panic lends. :-D

i can't compare. i never ever prepared too far ahead. i only operate in panic mode, unfortunately.

trouble is: i could talk for 5 hours. but i want to do a snappy 45 minute talk, no more than that. (i got photos and videos, so to claim i'm fully unprepared is a blatant lie, but i still do have a TON of work.)

and i'm always nervous. even when i teach a class i taught many times before. helps me concentrate and reach higher, so to speak... eeeek, back to work.

That's not an "extra spark that panic lends" - that's just a different kind of preparation.
(Says someone, who knows about that very well.)

Dag,
it is well written and very interesting.
Your workstyle seems a lot like my husbands- all is ready in his head, ready on the last second with powerpoint or slides. But he needs this little extra kick of panic.
Sorry, can't congratulate you tomorrow night- Thanksgiving dinner will be a longer session.
Bar hopping is not for old woman anyway.

Good luck, Hals-und Beinbruch for tomorrow.
Have a good trip.
