Putin's war

The Kremlin had probably assumed a quick victory in Ukraine. At least a jubilant commentary was already prepared. The state news agency accidentally shared it - and did not delete it quickly enough.

Five days after the attack on Ukraine in violation of international law, the Russian army is faltering, reports of soldiers killed are mounting. Now there are also increasing signs that the Kremlin assumed a completely different reality before the war began. And had already had this written down.

The state news agency Ria, for example, had accidentally published a prepared commentary in which the author celebrated Russia's victory over Ukraine. In the text, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is hailed for his victory and his wrestling with the West. However, a version of the planned hoax is still readable via the service Webarchive.

The comment had already been sent by mistake on Saturday morning before it was quickly deleted again. It was the night after the first failed major attack on Kiev. (The newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" had first reported on the prepared jubilant text.)

More evidence that Putin has dramatically strengthened NATO.

Quote:
In further evidence that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is radically changing European views, a survey for the Finnish public broadcaster YLE has found a majority of the country’s population is in favour of joining Nato for the first time.

According to the poll, conducted last week over three days before and immediately after the attacks with a representative sample of nearly 1,400 people, 53% of Finns would now support Finland’s accession to Nato, with 28% opposed and 19% unsure.

In 2017, the last time YLE’s market researchers polled on the same question, only 19% of Finns were in favour of joining the alliance, while a survey for private broadcaster MTV in January showed 30% supported membership.

@engineer,
Just speculating, but I wonder how mindful this administration is of the predictable and assured chain of events, where whenever Biden speaks, it's almost immediately shoehorned into more "proof" propaganda by the usual suspects. Then again, they may be thinking that, given the gravitas of the SOTU Address (3/1), they have a good opportunity to sort of get it all out there, and be more universally heard, and well covered.

In view of the Russian invasion of his country, the Ukrainian President has officially signed an application to join the EU. Commission President von der Leyen had already expressed a positive opinion.

Rosenmontag (that's today, the highlight of the German Karneval [carnival]has little to do with carnival these days:
Because of the war in Ukraine, many parades were cancelled - not all. In Cologne (a centre of carneval), more than 250,000 demonstrators were on the move.

The Cologne Carnival Festival Committee had called for a peace demonstration and, according to the police, more than 250,000 people came to demonstrate for peace in Europe. This made it one of the largest demonstrations in the history of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. (In 1982 and 1983, even more people demonstrated in Bonn against Ronald Reagan's policies and for peace, with 500,000 participants in each case. In 1996, also in Bonn, 350,000 people took to the streets against social cuts.)

agreements or not, Ukraine reportedly still maintains about 200 ICBMS, each with multiple warheads.

I don't claim any special knowledge here, but I have not seen any indications from any news source indicating that the earlier agreement was not executed in full, and that Ukraine did indeed transfer all its nuclear weapons to Russia. Nor have I seen any speculation about the possibility of their use in the current struggle, or even of any special efforts on the part of the Russian forces there to find and neutralize them - something I would expect would be a priority for them.

What is your source on this matter?

@georgeob1,
Originally, there were 176 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers with some 1,240 warheads on Ukrainian territory.
Quote:
This force consisted of 130 SS-19s, each capable of delivering six nuclear weapons, and 46 SS-24s, each armed with ten nuclear weapons. An additional 14 SS-24 missiles were present in Ukraine, but not operationally deployed with warheads. Several dozen bombers with strategic nuclear capabilities were armed with some 600 air-launched missiles, along with gravity bombs. In addition, as many as 3,000 tactical nuclear weapons rounded out an arsenal totaling approximately 5,000 strategic and tactical weapons. Today, Ukraine’s remaining nuclear activities are entirely civilian in nature, and Ukraine is a member of all major nonproliferation treaties and regimes.

@Walter Hinteler,
Quote:
As of early 2022, we estimate that Russia has a stockpile of approximately 4,477 nuclear warheads assigned for use by long-range strategic launchers and shorter-range tactical nuclear forces, which is a slight decrease from last year. Of the stockpiled warheads, approximately 1,588 strategic warheads are deployed: about 812 on land-based ballistic missiles, about 576 on submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and possibly 200 at heavy bomber bases. Approximately another 977 strategic warheads are in storage, along with about 1,912 nonstrategic warheads. In addition to the military stockpile for operational forces, a large number—approximately 1,500—of retired but still largely intact warheads await dismantlement, for a total inventory of approximately 5,977 warheads.

Hungary will not allow the delivery of weapons for Ukraine through its territory. "We will not allow the transport of lethal weapons across Hungarian territory," wrote Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Facebook. Szijjarto explained that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of Hungarian citizens on both sides of the border. The military transports could "easily become a target of attack", the minister added.

At the weekend, the EU had released 450 million euros for arms deliveries to Ukraine, which is under attack from Russia.

Never saw so many atheist Christians in one single thread...Disneyland gathering much?

Like typical Christians one has to onslaught the evil man for outsmarting western leaders for decades and properly defending "Rusky" interests within the limits of a dictatorship, no matter the cost for Ukrainians lead by an actor playing Marvel superhero on media and the long term viability of the West itself as the biggest nation in the world will join the most populous one!

**** consequences lets roast some smart commies to forget Covid lockdown!

@Albuquerque,
While Ukrainians are absolutely commendable for their bravery, big heart, while making as we speak a mark in History for decades to come, in spite of their inspiring sense of collective duty and Moral stand up in a day an age in which blunt hypocrisy rules short term chess moves, sadly they have the wrong President, and one who will lead them to catastrophe while most of us eat popcorns and cry!

Yes it is indeed appalling!

@Albuquerque,
That's the substance of Putin propaganda alright.

You have been pushing the Kremlin narrative from the off, how poor old Russia was encircled by NATO after the collapse of the Soviet Union, how they had no alternative to react the way theyhave.

Pure **** eating bullshit. The Soviet Union was bankrupt and the West bailed them out, former Warsaw Pact countries asked to join NATO which is hardly surprising after years of brutal Soviet occupation.

@izzythepush,
Sure because good old fashioned Murika would accept Mexico making a military defensive partnership with Russia tomorrow?...Right that would be a sight to be seen...

As for NATO wanting to strangle Russia economically to oblivion by forcing them to make a military 2000 miles proper border with them is all an accident...and of course Russia invaded because Putin lost it...he went mad, illogical shooting his own foot...Russia intelligentsia they all lost it!

This sound like a fairy tale of a Mexican soap opera of angel Snow White and the Evil mean machine Queen...the civilized honest democratic West and the barbarians...

You are a shame of a British man!
