How big is the basement? Would you be doing a bare bones job or top-of-the-line? What are your zoning requirements?

855 sq', 'L' shaped (rest left for storage unfinished). And not really 'top-of-the-line' so to speak, but always quality work.

$30K to $40K sounds about right.

More or less depending on present plumbing available.

Noddy's correct. You need to see what code requirements there are to make it an apartment. Are you planning to rent it out? If so, that could add more to the cost for bringing it into compliance. Does it require you to put in a new entrance? You have to have fire egress.

the biggest factors are the plumbing needs and here's one sure to bite you - the windows code depending on what you have in there now for the bed room you might be in deep manure or not.

the windows are full size and there is plenty of room for light to come in, as for the plumbing..Its close to where the kitchen is going in the slab already, all I need to do is break the floor up and run the bathroom and kitchen waste to it.

I ask because mine does. We don't have many basements in this part of the country, or even in my town, but I bought a house with one of them. It floods slightly, an inch high at the worst spots, once every three or four years, when the rains just don't stop and the storm drains get too much water at once.. So, I have my shelving, etc., on refrigerator rollers... There is a drain in the basement and it does work... once there is space in the city system. If worse comes to worse, I have a pump, and even have the directions for it.
