What is Pseudoscience?

Science is based on experiments and scientific facts are objectively testable.

Does anyone accept this basic statement? If we don't agree on this, then the word "science" has no meaning (or what does it mean?).

The problem is that when you accept the results of experiment, then you will have to give up some of your beliefs. If your philosophy, no matter how elegant or beautiful, is contradicted by experiment in science the experiment wins (and the belief must be discarded).

@maxdancona,
To answer the question of the thread again.

- Not everything that is "true" is science. There are many important questions about love, and beauty and identity and morality that can not be answered by science.

- Science is based only on experiment. If something isn't objectively testable than it isn't science.

- Pseudoscience is anything that claims to be science when it isn't based on experiment and can't be objectively tested. Water may have a human essence philosophically speaking. But if this essence can't be measured or objectively tested than it isn't science.

@Mame,
I wonder if he is aware that even Science and experimentation is based on conceptual limits attached to the species specific perception and its correlated linguistic schema entrenched in a technological and cultural Historic paradigm, what the French call "l'air du temps"... What do ya think not aware right?

Note, I am not vexing Science, but just recalling a very old lecture for those who think the boundaries of it are strictly related with Moral and Humanity disciplines which is patently false...

PS - There is nothing in Science that cannot be questioned properly it just so happens that for most of the time questioning it properly is really the hard part of the deal. Most people disputing scientific knowledge don't have the vaguest clue on where to look for weak spots. To advance Science you have to be willing to go against the establishment in current Science and do so carefully and with extreme caution.

Loving Science implies disputing current Science which is exactly what Max could never ever do....

@Albuquerque,
I would go as far as to say if you are not a natural Philosopher your affair with Science is either circumstantial or vague.

@maxdancona,
We use a broad brush to paint truth.

Even pure science has speculative and theoretic areas that fall under the guise of their canopy.

Here is my theory of everything

Geometry explains all of string theory, relativity and quantum theory... pi=1/137

pi is zero so it is the theory of everything and nothing.
