2000 Izuzu Rodeo Problem

Hi:

I have a 2000 Rodeo, 6 cyl. The "cruise Control" light comes on automatically and then hestitates big time. I've had it to the shop where they swear they disconnected the cruise control. It's terrible. I cannot drive far. What more can be done except what they are now telling me is to rewire the whole system..............1,000 - 2,000! Otherwise the car is great.
