Before I went into the hospital I had gained back 25 of the 45 lbs. I had lost, mostly due to shitty diet.

I lost 30 lbs. while in the hospital and want to keep it off. I can walk everyday, do all the cardio I can stand as per my doctor, but any lifting is out.

I can't go low carb because I need fuel. I'm weak enough as it is. I also can't tolerate meat or dairy well right now.

I'm eating a LOT of fruit and some veggies, trying to avoid the starchy ones like corn. Am eating baked sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes, and eating brown rice.

Any dietary suggestions to help me healthily and sensibly keep this weight off?

water, tofu, peanut butter, TEA TEA TEA.
Lemongrass would be excellent for ya.
No oil cooking.
A good fast dinner -
steamed broccoli, bell peppers, timari sauce on brown rice, with diced apple.

I will get some of my recipies together and PM them to you over a few days. Product names included.

Mr wolf and I changed our diets about 8 mos ago and between the two of us lost about 3 digits of weight. WITH NO EXCERSIZE... wich my lazy self LOVES. Laughing

Hey, I bought some tofu for him the other day but have never used it. Any ideas how to prepare it?

It's a block of medium firm.

Was gonna cube it myself, but what do I do after that???

Freeze the tofu for 24 hours, I will tell you a really KICK ass recipe tonight for it. I have to dig up my notes..

Small amounts of peanut butter shouldnt bother you. The problem people with ulcers have with peanut butter is that they eat several tablespoons. That stops up even people with normal GI tracts Laughing

But if it isnt something you are not comfortable with, find a liquid protien supplement. A soy based protien drink would be comfortable for your stomach and not too sweet.
You can sweeten your tea and get health benefits by using local honey or organic maple syrup.
I prefer the maple syrup, but that is because I LOVE sweet stuff...

It will take me a little while but I will dig up my herb encyclopedias and post some herbs that will help your specific problems that you can make good tasting teas with. You can drink the teas and count that as your water intake as well . It seems easier to drink the amounts of water you need every day if it has a varied taste pallet.

Do you have an herbal store near by?
Or an organic based grocery store like Whole Foods?

You need a good protein source. Soy is one, but too much isn't good. Whey protein is also good. You can get it in powder form and make fruit&whey shakes, delicious! Can you eat eggs? They're another good protein source as are fish and shellfish.

Fried foods will probably bother you so try to use an olive oil based cooking spray. I've recently started sauteeing vegetables in low sodium, low fat chicken broth instead of oil. Most mornings I make eggs on a bed of spinach or arugula - 1/3 cup chicken broth, large handful greens, cover and let wilt, crack two eggs on top, cover and steam for 4 minutes. Sometimes I add chopped red pepper and onions to the broth before I add the greens.

What do you use to sweeten your tea? Any sweetener would be better than white sugar. Honey is good. Artificial sweeteners like Splenda, which is used just like sugar, and stevia, which is 300 times more sweet than sugar are good no calorie choices.

Carbs from whole grains such as brown rice, spelt bread (and pizza dough), wheat or rice pasta are good choices. A good all around food is hummus. It's got fat from the tahini, but it's mostly monounsaturated fat and will help keep you satisfied. It's also a good source of protein and carbs from the chickpeas in it. Eaten with pepper strips or whole wheat pita is a great snack or side dish.

Glad you're feeling better, BVT.

I like a big salad with all kinds of goodies and sometimes some meat thrown in--tuna, roasted chicken, fish, salmon.

It's scrumptuous!

As much water as you can stand really helps flush out impurities and hydrate your beautiful body!!!

Small meals--snacks, really. Half cup sized portions, ten to fifteen times a day.

If you don't want to eat it all now--save it for later. Think "grazing".

Hummus? I think I had some at a bar mitzvah. Is it kinda like a cream cheese spread or thick veggie dip?

Does it come premade and I can flavor the way I want or do I have to buy the chickpeas and start from scratch?

(Note: health food to this point in our lives has been considered a curse)

It comes premade. Cedar's is a good brand. Trader Joe's is better. Atheno's is sweetened (ugh). It's also easy to made from scratch. One 15 oz can of chickpeas, 1/3 cup hot water, 1/4 cup tahini, juice of one lemon, garlic to taste (I usually use 2 cloves), olive oil (added slowly while processing until you like the consistency) and ground cayenne (optional).

Rinse the chickpeas and throw everything except the olive oil and cayenne into a food processer. Slowly drizzle the olive oil until you get the consistency you like. Sprinkle cayenne on top, if using.

There are lower fat versions that don't use tahini, but its a good for you fat from sesame seeds so you don't need to avoid it.

Squinney, I saw your other post about a change in Bear's outlook. I've noticed it in his posts too. Continued best wishes to you both.

Hummus, I dunno. I made some for a party at work and one particular fellow thought it was the greatest thing...

Told me he never farted so much for so long ever before.
Well, hell, he ate the whole big dish full...

squinney and the cubs are having Wendys burgers and spicy chicken sandwiches. I'm about to have some chicken soup and a piece of dry toast.

Boo-Hoo.

Can't go wrong with that combo.

You also can make a great salad from chick peas - I prefer that to hummus.

Buy roasted Peppers, drain them of excess fat,
mix 1/3 roasted Peppers to 2/3 cooked chick peas,
add chopped garlic (however garlicy you want to)
season with salt, pepper and olive oil - finished.

Serve with baguette.

----

By the way, Tofu is also good to make sauces.
Cut Tofu and put it in the blender
add a can of beef broth/consomme
and parsley - season to taste.
This sauce is a great healty substitute for sauce Alfredo
over Spaghetti.

OK, I like tofu well enough. I happen to have two types of tofu in my fridge. But, instead of alfredo sauce?
Ai, chihuahua.

Nothing replaces a good alfredo!

(Jane enters and whispers, "We've secretly replaced Osso's alfredo with tofu crystals.")

Haha squinney, that's right Wink
Of course, nothing replaces a good Alfredo sauce,
but if you have to do without it, a substitue becomes
mighty tasteful, all of a sudden.

Good, try the chick pea salad first squinney - it's really
delicious. Part of the spanish tapas.
