@Builder,

The irony of that old poem, is that nowhere
does it even mention Humpty being an egg.

The irony of your pointing that out is neither did BillW's meme.

@bobsal u1553115,
From 1996, the website of the Colchester tourist board attributed the origin of the rhyme to a cannon recorded as used from the church of St Mary-at-the-Wall by the Royalist defenders in the siege of 1648. In 1648, Colchester was a walled town with a castle and several churches and was protected by the city wall. The story given was that a large cannon, which the website claimed was colloquially called Humpty Dumpty, was strategically placed on the wall. A shot from a Parliamentary cannon succeeded in damaging the wall beneath Humpty Dumpty, which caused the cannon to tumble to the ground. The Royalists (or Cavaliers, "all the King's men") attempted to raise Humpty Dumpty on to another part of the wall, but the cannon was so heavy that "All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpty together again".

@BillW,
Works well enough for me. I hope someone reads that to builder so he can enjoy it, too.

@bobsal u1553115,
You'd think they'd be satisfied with Old King Cole.

(That's the nursery rhyme they keep banging on about.)

@izzythepush,
"Much later, Mad ran a feature similarly postulating classical writers' treatments of fairy tales. The magazine had Edgar Allan Poe tackle "Old King Cole", resulting in a cadence similar to that of "The Bells":

Old King Cole was a merry old soul
Old King Cole, Cole, Cole, Cole, Cole, Cole, Cole."

@bobsal u1553115,
MAGA security has banned the Nazi salute, which was becoming more and more common at the rallies. It didn't look good. It's too revealing, so security goes through the crowd and stops the salute

Apparently, Trump can win the Republican primary, but he can't win the general election. So, the Republican party is reduced to try to win elections by cheating or by contesting results of the election and perpetually challenging the results.

Knowing this, Trump and other MAGA Republicans have set up their followers to accept their cheating by accusing the Democrats of cheating. It's a tit for tat sort of thing based on lies and deceptions.

Many of us, including myself, have either never been exposed to narcissism or haven't recognized or defined it in individuals as such. I think we can thank Donald Trump for epitomizing the very essence of narcissism and exposing this quality of extreme anomaly in human personalities to the world.

The question is why so many people would be enamored of this type of psychopathy in an individual and allow him to have power over their lives. It's one thing for an individual to have a personal relationship with a narcissist, but another thing to grant a narcissist political power over hundreds of millions of people. That's unfathomable to me. Yet, historically, it's happened over and over again with catastrophic consequences.

@coluber2001,
I think he hit America with the right stuff at the right time. This wouldn't have worked 20 years ago, for example, or if he was running against Obama. People are sheep, in the main... they want someone to follow, they want someone to make decisions for them. There aren't very many original thinkers. They believe his lies about how rich and successful he is. Plus, he had a tv show where he garnered a lot of this attention. He's decisive: "You're fired" and he has a lot of buzz phrases: "Kung Fu Flu", and nicknames: "Ron Desanctimonious", etc, which resonates with his illiterate, ignorant base. He united the great unwashed and unthinking.

Narcissism is everywhere. Just listen to people. How many are not interested in you or others, what you think or what you're doing? Many. To not be interested or engaged in people and things outside your world is slightly narcissistic. It's all about you.

I would venture to suggest that most inhabitants of G7 countries know more about America than Americans even know about their own country. And it's not because the USA is "all-powerful" - it's because these countries learn about and can see outside their own country/boundaries.

Watching American news today is like watching a soap opera. No other country is this ... what's the word? ... mercurial and unpredictable.

What do you ever hear about the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand (and the list goes on)? There might be a scandal or two, but the US eclipses all. Could most Americans even find Belgium on a map? They can't even find their own country on at Atlas according to shows like Letterman and Leno. The knowledge of the general public about anything outside of their narrow little orb is abysmal and these guys (among others) have been showcasing it for years.

So this is who The Orange Shitgibbon is speaking to.

@Mame,
And I would like to add that what the USA has done to become the world leader in so many ways in such a short time is remarkable and admirable. But... every dynasty has its day. They have all ended. Think the British Empire, the Ottoman Empire, to name just two of the most recent.

Apparently just before integration into the European Union.

Timothy Snyder has been schooling Europeans claiming that most of these countries never existed in modern times as countries, but they went directly from failed Empires into the European Union.

@Region Philbis,
Just saw that. Too funny not to mention a second time. Trump really is stupid. And his legal team? I can't wait to see a story about Trump not paying them for the 1000s of billable hours. Yet, they're not doing enough to try and get Trump to shut his mouth about these things.

The Trump Files: Trump’s Long History of Getting Sued by His Own Lawyers

This post was originally published as part of “The Trump Files“—a collection of telling episodes, strange but true stories, and curious scenes from the life of our current president—on October 27, 2016.

During his decades in the real estate world, Donald Trump famously shortchanged many small businesses on the money he owed them. The list includes companies that worked on Trump’s properties or supplied him with chandeliers, pianos, marble, and other luxury touches. But Trump also tried to underpay the very same lawyers who helped him save money, and some ended up suing their former client.

As our own Hannah Levintova reported in March, the Atlantic City law firm of Levine Staller saved one of Trump’s companies tens of millions of dollars in taxes—and then sued the company, Trump Entertainment, after the business tried to pay Levine Staller $1.25 million less than the firm was owed.

Great read. I searched 'unpaid Trump lawyers' he hasn't paid a bunch of lawyers.

Trump’s Lawyers Start to Wonder If One Could Be a Snitch

There’s plenty of bad blood among Trump’s team of lawyers. But there’s also a new concern that someone could turn on the rest of the team.
Jose Pagliery

Political Investigations Reporter
Published May. 30, 2023 3:58AM ET

With three anticipated indictments, two ongoing court cases, and an ever-expanding cadre of lawyers, former President Donald Trump is at a critical juncture—and yet his legal advisers are starting to turn on each other.

According to five sources with direct knowledge of the situation, clashing personalities and the increasing outside threat of law enforcement has sown deep divisions that have only worsened in recent months. The internal bickering has already sparked one departure in recent weeks—and that could be just the beginning.

As Trump’s legal troubles keep growing—with criminal and civil investigations in New York City, Washington, and Atlanta—so too does the unwieldy band of attorneys who simply can’t get along.

The cast of characters includes an accused meddler who has Trump’s ear, a young attorney who lawyers on the team suggested is only there because the former president likes the way she looks, and a celebrity lawyer who’s increasingly viewed with disdain. Worst of all, now that federal investigators have turned the interrogation spotlight on some of Trump’s lawyers themselves, defense attorneys on the team seem to be questioning whether their colleagues may actually turn into snitches.
