Exclusive: Special counsel probing Trump Organization's handling of Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage

Source: CNN Politics

CNN — Prosecutors for special counsel Jack Smith have been asking questions in recent weeks about the handling of surveillance footage from former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort after the Trump Organization received a subpoena last summer for the footage, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation.

The handling of the footage, and how employees within the Trump Organization responded to the Justice Department’s demand for it, have prompted a new round of grand jury subpoenas to top Trump employees in the last few weeks, the sources told CNN. Longtime Trump Organization executives Matthew Calamari Sr. and his son Matthew Calamari Jr. are expected to appear Thursday before the grand jury investigating possible mishandling of classified documents brought to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, sources said.

Prosecutors are expected to ask them about the handling of the surveillance footage and Trump employees’ conversations following the subpoena, according to the sources. Calamari Sr., the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Trump Organization, has primarily overseen security operations for Trump and his properties during his decadeslong career working for Trump. His son, Calamari Jr., is director of security for the Trump Organization.

An attorney for Calamari Jr. declined to comment, as did a spokesman for the special counsel’s office. An attorney for Calamari Sr. did not respond to a request for comment. The grand jury activity scheduled for Thursday marks another step forward for Smith’s investigation, as it secures some of Trump’s closest allies as witnesses potentially against him.

Judge Tosses Trump's Lawsuit Against NY Times, Orders Him to Pay All Legal Fees

Source: Daily Beast

Trump sued the paper, along with his niece Mary, alleging an “insidious plot” to grab his tax records and publish them in a Pulitzer-winning report.

A New York judge has tossed out Donald Trump’s lawsuit against The New York Times, and ordered the former president to pay all attorneys fees, legal expenses, and associated costs.

Trump filed the lawsuit in 2021, alleging that the newspaper, three of its reporters and his niece Mary Trump engaged in an “insidious plot” to obtain his private records for a Pulitzer-winning story about his tax issues.

While the court tossed out Trump’s claims against the newspaper and its reporters, the claims against the ex-president’s niece have yet to be ruled upon.

“The New York Times is pleased with the judge’s decision today,” a paper spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Daily Beast. “It is an important precedent reaffirming that the press is protected when it engages in routine newsgathering to obtain information of vital importance to the public.”

The twice-impeached former president’s claims against the defendants “fail as a matter of constitutional law,” New York Supreme Court Justice Robert R. Reed wrote in his ruling filed on Wednesday afternoon, deeming the paper’s newsgathering as being at “the very core of protected First Amendment activity.”

His lawyers hope it means they'll get paid, too.

@roger,
Yeah, hard to believe, but we ain't talking about suspenders. Just the jolly crowd that thinks they are here to introduce Jesus to Trump. Jesus might show him his old scars and Trump can hand him the names of all the women he loved sincerly in an instant and YET, they were not grateful. Girl people are so ungrateful.

Forbes: "Trump Tower exposed as something of a fraud."

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-tower-2659452531/?cx_testId=6&cx_testVariant=cx_undefined&cx_artPos=5&cx_experienceId=EXC93HV4HK4I#cxrecs_s

According to a new report from Forbes, New York Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit against former President Donald Trump has exposed his flagship building, New York City's Trump Tower, as being "something of a fraud."

Specifically, Forbes reporter Dan Alexander zeroes in on the fact that Trump Tower plays a central role in James' claims about Trump manipulating the values of his assets for tax purposes.

As if that weren't enough, Forbes has also published an audio recording dating back to 2015 showing that Trump "was personally involved in the efforts to lie about the value of Trump Tower’s commercial space."

The heart of the matter lies in Trump's 2015 valuation of Trump Tower as being worth $881 million, which Alexander writes was achieved through a mixture of lying about the building's square footage and lying about the number of square feet within that exaggerated total that were viable as retail and office space.Taken all together, Alexander writes, and Trump "inflated the value of his property by an estimated $400 million."

Anyone else find it laughable that we're comparing notes about octogenarians, with almost zero people skills, vying for the "rights" to commandeering the largest military junta on our planet?

@Builder,
And yet they seem to be able to pull it off. Meanwhile you got Putin at 70, allegedly in charge of the No 2 power in the world dead in his tracks.

Biden is doing a competent and well thought out job leading NATO, the org your 78 year old twit, the Orange Shitgibbon, tried to destroy.

Speaking of number 2, how'd your shift on dunny patrol go last night?

Thankyou for demonstrating again, your complete ignorance of the situation.

Putin repeatedly warned that continued NATO expansion in Europe will not be tolerated.

The puppet dictator (no previous experience, but an average actor) chosen to front the media in Ukraine, has benefited hugely in financial terms, for his role, but the complicit media has again failed to report on the actual truth of what's been happening to Russian-speaking people in that region.

Let's not even mention the Biden's family and Pelosi's family benefiting hugely from the US "intervention" in Ukrainian political/business spheres, just quietly.
