No. I'm not being ageist.
However, it is a very common occurrence, for the last several thousand years, that teenagers go against their authority figures for one reason or another.
This is partly due to teens not yet reaching mental maturity and not realizing the consequences of their actions. Because of that, teens are given some leniency and avoid severe punishment, most of the time.
That kind of leniency is not given to adults as many should know the consequences if they rebel or break any laws/ social customs.
