Happy Presidents' Day 2020! Doing anything special for the holiday?

So no Americans here care about Presidents' Day?

I just treat this holiday like I treat any other day in the year.

A whole holiday dedicated to cheese, how wonderful. I'll definitely be baking a camembert tonight.

Presidents' Day in America is a holiday celebrating President Washington's birthday, recognizing Washington and Lincoln and honoring all the U.S. presidents.

Sorry I did not respond - I was spending the day celebrating Presidents' Day.

I and my family don our Presidential gear - things like Abe's hat, mustache and beard, Washington's wig. Then we gather around and do Presidential type stuff -- like recreate crossing the Delaware and/or reciting The Emancipation Proclamation.

It is fun filled day of history and play acting.

Either that or we go shop for cars.

There are not many ways to celebrate Presidents' Day, compared to most holidays. Most people likely spent more time and energy celebrating St. Valentine's Day a few days ago.

Most people typically view Presidents' Day as a day off from work or school. At best, people would probably watch TV specials or films about the US Presidents.

That, or they see the band The Presidents of the United States of America in concert.

What have you got against camembert?

Well, it's not an American cheese.

I had to work. My husband had the day off and was home, so we got pizza for lunch.

It's also an album.



And a T shirt. I went to see them, (today's lineup at least,) a couple of times last year.

I conversed with my wife about how as kids we celebrated Washington's birthday on his birthday and Lincoln's birthday on his birthday. There was no President's Day holiday at the time. Aside from that we kept a normal routine. She worked on a jigsaw puzzle while I organized in my tool room.

To me, Presidents' Day is just another day off from work or school, or from one's daily routine since it's a federal holiday.

I never really got into the holidays that much. Of course I was into them more as a youngster, especially when I was in school. A lot of the holidays were celebrated in school. I think the last time I was ever excited or hyped to celebrate any holidays was when I was in art school.

As I got older they became less and less important to me. I tried to get into them if and when I had the time.

Why? I see the holidays as an excuse to get people to spend their money. Every year the media hypes the general public up around the holidays so they will spend money on holiday-related stuff and/or gifts. That's capitalism and consumerism at work.

People have more important things to do than to take part in any holidays.

I get into Thanksgiving, Easter which my family and I refer to as Resurrection Sunday, and Christmas for religious reasons since we are Christians.

We DON'T do Halloween for obvious reasons.

If you have time to celebrate and/or observe the holidays and get into them, good, more power to you.

I choose to express interest in certain holidays if I am in the mood to.

So I take it you didn't buy a car

On Sunday I braved Storm Dennis and went to Frome car boot sale. There's a bloke there who does really cheap food, it's all good stuff and within date, but a lot of it is just within date so it either has to be frozen or eaten straight away. I bought a load of cheese, including a camembert which is a President camembert. It's currently baking in the oven with some spices and a clove of garlic. We'll be having it with Italian breadsticks and some black grapes.

If the holidays year-round are not important to you, then why do you ask people how they spend them?

With Presidents' Day in particular, there are no huge celebrations. People in general view the holiday as a day off.

President's Day is a convenient reason for buses and trains to run slower than they should and has the holiday tag built in as a handy dandy excuse.

It also means no annoying bills will be arriving in the mail, as the postal service is mostly off.

I was curious. I never really paid the holidays THAT much attention.

I paid the holidays somewhat more attention in my youth.

Do you get what I am saying?

No. I am not in the market to buy a new car right now anyway.
