Let's look at how ridiculous this argument is by putting it in terms that most conservatives would understand.

If someone says "I am not anti-gun I am just anti-illegal gun" and then supports policies and laws that further restrictions on guns... what would you say? It is a political slight of hand to avoid taking a position you are uncomfortable with.

If I'm reading this correctly, I suppose you think I'm a person that supports further restrictions on legal immigration. I don't suppose you are going to believe this, but that is simply untrue.

What do you favor that helps, or makes things easier for legal immigrants (rather than hurting or making things more difficult)?

The Trump administration has been disastrous for legal immigrants.

Tell me if you support the wall but oppose the other immigration restrictions from the Trump administration. This would be a data point that would challenge my observation so far.

Actually, more consuls and faster processing wouldn't go very far at all.

The need is for people outside of the country is more visas. In my opinion, more visas for people seeking refugee status would be the most important. Legal refugees are getting shut out by people who insist they are "anti-illegal-immigrant".

And there are lots of policies that hurt legal immigrants currently in the country. A friend of mine is a legal immigrant who can't get his wife a work permit.

For the record, I don't see you as a big Trump supporter (but in this thread, you have willingly walked into the role Wink

).

The term "anti-illegal-immigrant" is a weasel word.

We don't use this term for any other "crime". Consider the terms "anti-illegal abortion" or "anti-illegal-same-sex-marriage". These terms are meaningless at best and are often used as a cynical evasion of taking responsibility for a cruel policy.

I am strongly in favor of gun control legislation and policies. I don't need to come up with weird phrasing to hide my real position. I have the balls to just say it plainly.

Lots of conservatives who don't object to legal immigration don't know nearly enough about immigration to know details like that.

It doesn't mean that we are against legal immigration however.

Not if someone merely favors enforcement against people who are actually here illegally, and they have no problem with welcoming people in legally.
