Is Self-Grounding a documented thing

I have 'self grounding' fixtures going on to metal boxes. I think I do not need the separate pigtail to the ground screw. But I cannot find clear direct documentation to that point, not even from the vendor. Does such exist? I am thinking the inspector may want to see something in writing. Thanks.
