Fate
Up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

Astounding lyrical poetry, cav...
clairvoyant, besides.

Hello Again

Hello again, hello
Just called to say hello
I couldn't sleep at all tonight
And I know it's late
But I couldn't wait

*Hello my friend, hello
Just called to let you know
I think about you every night

When I'm here alone
And you're there at home, hello

Maybe it's been crazy
And maybe I'm to blame
But I put my heart above my head
We're been through it all
And you loved me just the same
And when you're not there
I just need to hear

Hello my friend, hello
It's good to need you so
It's good to love you like I do
And to feel this way
When I hear you say, hello

And I know it's late
But I couldn't wait, hello
(Performed by Neil Diamond )

I've always been a fan of this Generation X song, written by a then very young Billy Idol, very James Dean:

KISS ME DEADLY

The greyhound's rocking out tonight
To maximum rockabilly
When two punks chose to risk the subway
For a tube to Picadilly
And the Zephrys stir fast gangs for glory
Another dumb casualty
Having fun
In South West six
When a hidden flick knife flicks
Kiss me deadly tonight

Another battle was won and lost
Down The Bishops End last night
Spotlights pick the kids in triumph
With a thousand scarves in flight, see how they run
Spring from the terraces in black and white
Young and old into the fight
Having fun
In South West six
With violence for a fix
Kiss me deadly tonight

Seven o'clock they stand in rank
For the thirty bus uptown
And later in a downstairs room
She pulls her lover down
In ecstacy but they can't make a sound
Case her mother might come down
Having fun
In South West six
Discovers teenage sex
Kiss me deadly tonight

The snooker hall is empty
Cos they're all out playing pool
Hustling down the Fulham Road
Doing deals with Mr.Cool
They're all out on the waterfront now
instead of being in school
Too old now to dig pinball
Having fun
In South West six
Having fun
When a hidden flick knife flicks
With violence for a fix
Discovers teenage sex
Tried shooting up for kicks
Kiss me deadly
Kiss me deadly
Kiss me deadly
Kiss me
Kiss me tonight

Hello again to you jjorge!
Lovely lyrics, and beautiful when sung.
Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Your lyrical song tells the story of the world as I know it, Cav.
It seems that quietude, gentleness, humility and obedience have
all taken flight; as youth are erupting ever downward in a spiral to
frenetic scrambling.
This 'poem' says it ALL.

Here's wishing you and Mrs Cav a most exciting and prosperous
holiday season.

Love to all
jblanchard.

Thanks Jackie. Best wishes to you as well! Until I heard that song, I had no idea that Billy Idol actually had any writing talent. Laughing

I will always be a huge Tom Waits fan. He always has very interesting ways of putting things:

I'LL SHOOT THE MOON
Tom Waits

I'll shoot the moon
Right out of the sky
For you baby
I'll be the pennies
On your eyes
For you baby

I want to take you
Out to the fair
Here's a red rose
Ribbon for your hair

I'll shoot the moon
Right out of the sky
For you baby
I'll shoot the moon
For you

A vulture circles
Over your head
For you baby
I'll be the flowers
After you're dead
For you baby

I want to build
A nest in your hair
I want to kiss you
And never be there

I'll shoot the moon
Right out of the sky
For you baby
I'll shoot the moon
For you

I never knew there was a SONG called 'Kiss Me Deadly' ...but I remember the NOVEL of that name by Mickey Spillane.
When I was a kid my Mom read every Mickey Spillane novel and when she'd finish them, and wasn't paying attention, I'd read them myself --mostly because (by a 1950's standard) they were RACY.

Below is a review of 'Kiss Me Deadly' that I found online:

It's a dark night on an empty road as *Mike heads back to New York. A tall blonde literally jumps out of nowhere right into his headbeams. He angrily picks her up and continues driving. Suddenly he's driven off the road, knocked out, put back in his car along with the woman and the car is pushed off a cliff. Mike survives the murder attempt, however, the woman's luck isn't as good. It turns out that the woman was a witness for the FBI, which puts Mike into the hotseat once again. True to form, Mike, even though warned by the feds and local police department, takes it upon himself to investigate the murder. The Mafia is also involved as they try to take Mike out of the picture, both directly and by subtler means. As he continues to question people and throw his fists around, he soon discovers what the Mafia is after and why they are gunning for him. However, there's one catch; does he turn in the prize or trade it in for Velda's life? Read this book to find out, and don't miss the horrific ending. I liked this book quite a bit, with its' twists and turns, and the fact that Mike barely uses Betsy ( his gun ) but instead opts to duke it out with his feet, his fists and anything else he can get his mitts on.

I would guess that the song title comes from the novel. Whether or not Billy Idol read it at the time, who knows? The band Bauhaus chose their name just because it sounded good. It was only later that they discovered the German architectural movement.

carly simon

My father sits at night with no lights on;
His cigarette glows in the dark.
The living room is still;
I walk by, no remark.
I tiptoe past the master bedroom where
My mother reads her magazines.
I hear her call sweet dreams,
But I forget how to dream.
But you say it's time we moved in together
And raised a family of our own, you and me ---
Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be;
You want to marry me, we'll marry.

My friends from college they're all married now;
They have their houses and their lawns.
They have their silent noons,
Tearful nights, angry dawns.
Their children hate them for the things they're not;
They hate themselves for what they are ---
And yet they drink, they laugh,
Close the wound, hide the scar.

But you say it's time we moved in together
And raised a family of our own, you and me ---
Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be;
You want to marry me, we'll marry.

You say that we can keep our love alive
Babe, all I know is what I see ---
The couples cling and claw
And drown in love's debris.
You say we'll soar like two birds through the clouds,
But soon you'll cage me on your shelf ---
I'll never learn to be just me first
By myself.

Well O.K., it's time we moved in together
And raised a family of our own, you and me ---
Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be;
You want to marry me, we'll marry.
We'll marry.

Mary Chapin Carpenter

I grew up in a house like this,
we knew the groan of every stair
When you dreamed
it was of the wind
blowing cold and hard
In those dreams you thought
you lived in a house of cards

I grew up in a town like this,
we knew the names of every street
On the surface it looked so safe,
but it was perilous underneath
That's the place you shoved your doubts
and hid your ugly scars
God forbid if word got out
about your house of cards

And now I feel the wind about to blow,
and baby I'm so scared
You're repeating the past
instead of letting it go
And I don't wanna go back there
Now we're standing here face to face,
afraid to move or else
I wanna prop up this fragile place,
I can't do it all by myself

'Cause when we dream,
it's of the wind, blowing cold and hard
When we wake up
we still live in a house of cards
'Cause when we dream,
it's of the wind, blowing cold and hard
When we wake up
we still live in a house of cards

Call Me Irresponsible

Call me irresponsible
Call me unreliable
Throw in undependable too
Do my foolish alibis bore you
Well I'm not too clever
I just adore you

Call me unpredictable
Tell me I'm impractical
Rainbows I'm inclined to pursue
Call me irresponsible
Yes I'm unreliable
But it's undeniably true
I'm irresponsibly mad for you

Goodbe to Love- Carpenters

I'll say goodbye to love

No one ever cared if I should live or die

Time and time again the chance for love has passed me by

And all I know of love is how to live without it

I just can't seem to find it

So I've made my mind up

I must live my life alone

And though it's not the easy way

I guess I've always know

I'd say goodbye to love

There are no tomorrows for this heart of mine

Surely time will lose these bitter memories

And I'll find that there is someone to believe in

And to live for something I could live for

All the years of useless search

Have finally reached an end

Loneliness and empty days will be my only friend

From this day love is forgotten

I'll go on as best I can

What lies in the future is a mystery to us all

No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls

There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong

But for now this is my song

And it's goodbye to love

I'll say goodbye to love
Crying or Very sad

(incidentally, call me LOU)

Let me hear you whisper that
you love
ME

Keep that love light glowing in your eyes....so true (not all are blue)

Very Happy aw! I think that that's sweet, Jackie.

This following track sounds comical without listening to the accompanying music, which make it clear that it's not:

I wish I had a Sylvia Plath
Busted tooth and a smile
And cigarette ashes in her drink
The kind that goes out and then sleeps for a week
The kind that goes out on her
To give me a reason, for well, I dunno

And maybe she'd take me to France
Or maybe to Spain and she'd ask me to dance
In a mansion on the top of a hill
She'd ash on the carpets
And slip me a pill
Then she'd get pretty loaded on gin
And maybe she'd give me a bath
How I wish I had a Sylvia Plath

And she and I would sleep on a boat
And swim in the sea without clothes
With rain falling fast on the sea
While she was swimming away, she'd be winking at me
Telling me it would all be okay
Out on the horizon and fading away
And I'd swim to the boat and I'd laugh
I gotta get me a Sylvia Plath

And maybe she'd take me to France
Or maybe to Spain and she'd ask me to dance
In a mansion on the top of a hill
She'd ash on the carpets
And slip me a pill
Then she'd get pretty loaded on gin
And maybe she'd give me a bath
How I wish I had a Sylvia Plath
I wish I had a Sylvia Plath

Amazing drom_et_reve,

I have been reading the Sylvia Plath poetry on your topic of same name.
She is remarkable! I know of her sad life, and suicide-
but I am not very familiar with her work. The poetry is astounding, however. I will read more.

Keep coming back... I know everyone loves reading your input.

Thank you, Jackie Very Happy. I'll make sure that I return often; I'm glad that you enjoy my participation as I do yours.

The wordplay in this song is amusing-- quirkiest love song that I know:

I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

I have a secret to tell
From my electrical well
It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells
So the room must listen to me
Filibuster vigilantly
My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e
My story's infinite
Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am

There's a picture opposite me
Of my primitive ancestry
Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free
Though I respect that a lot
I'd be fired if that were my job
After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts
Bluebird of friendliness
Like guardian angels its always near

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (and while you're at it)
Who watches over you (keep the nightlight on inside the)
Make a little birdhouse in your soul (birdhouse in your soul)

A few sentences were deleted! I meant to also say:

'I'm glad that you like Sylvia Plath: it's a shame that her horrid death eclipses her wonderful poetry. I'll be updating that thread often too!'

A couple of Elvis Costello tracks cleverly weaving themes of wartime, lost love and separation:

AMERICAN WITHOUT TEARS

Outside in New Orleans the heat was almost frightening
But my hotel room as usual was freezing and unkind
On TV they prosecute anyone who's exciting
So I put on my overcoat and went down to find
In Revlon and Crimpelene they captured my heart
To the strain of a piano and a cocktail murderess
She was singing that "It's Too Late", I agreed with that part
For two English girls who had changed their address

[chorus]

Now it seems we've been crying for years and for years
Now I don't speak any English, just American without tears
Just American without tears

One had been a beauty queen and the other was her friend
They had known rogues and rascals and showbiz impresarios
While the boys were licking Hitler they had something to defend
From men armed with chewing gum and fine nylon hose
By a bicycle factory as they sounded the siren
And returned into the dancehall she knew he was the one
Though he wasn't tall or handsome she laughed when he told her
"I'm the Sheriff of Nottingham and this is Little John"

[chorus]

At a dock in Southampton full of tearful goodbyes
Newsreel commentators said "Cheerio, G.I. brides"
Soon they'll be finding the cold facts and lies
New words for suspenders and young girls backsides

Now I'm in America and running from you
Like my grandfather before me walked the streets of New York
And I think of all the women I pretend mean more than you
When I open my mouth and I can't seem to talk

Now it seems we've been crying for years and for years
Now I don't speak any English just American without tears
Just American without tears

SLEEP OF THE JUST

The soldier asked my name and did I come here very often
Well I thought that he was asking me to dance
In my holy coat and hat and him in his red bonnet
We'd have made a lovely couple but we never had the chance
[chorus]
And now you say that you've got to go
Well if you must you must
I suppose that you need the sleep of the just

Well it was a powerful day and there were black crows in the road
And I kept my strong opinions to my chest
I suppose I should have told them that I was on fire for you
When the bus burst into flames outside some place, 'The Poet's Rest'

[chorus]

A girl woke up in a naked light and said "Oh no not again"
He even looked like her brother in the army but she never mentions him
He'll be tucked up in his bed tonight with his dirty-pictures girl
Saying, 'You're some mother's daughter you know or is it
immaterial girl?'

Now she's pinned up upon the barracks wall in her home town
All the soldiers taking turns with their attentions
And as they speculate what she'd look like beneath that thin nightgown
His family pride was rising up as he cast his eyes down

Speaking of quirky love songs:

Barbed Wire Love
Stiff Little Fingers

I met you in No Man's Land
Across the wire we were holding hands
Hearts a-bubble in the rubble
It was love at bomb site

All you give me is barbed wire love
All caught up in barbed wire love
Tangled up in barbed wire love
Throw my leg over barbed wire love
Barbed wire love snags my jeans

When I fell it was awful nice
Caught when not suspecting vice
The night was rife with wasteland life
You set my arm alight

[Chorus]

Blasted by your booby traps
I felt the blow in both knee-caps
Your eyes did shine
Your lips were fine
And the device in your pants was out of site

[Chorus]
