OK

After being quietly amused for awhile, Cav,
I decided to see WHO and what is STIFF LITTLE FINGERS.
I read some of the material, and it is touchy, quirky, too candid, and alright...
in places.
Here is one that we all relate too, Huh???

Touch And Go
Looking back it's funny that we never lied
That night we met when were both alone
We knew at once that what we'd want was just that night
Knew it couldn't be forever
Cos we each told of another
And then found something all our own

[Chorus:]
We both agreed we felt the need that goes skin deep
We said up front that's all we'd want and so
We took the love that felt so good and had to be
Just a case of touch and go

When we'd got that usual block out of the way
We both relaxed, sat back and felt so sure
Saw eye to eye and looked each other in the face
Hours we talked with warmth and laughter
And we still could talk more after
In the dark up on the seventh floor

[Chorus]

Some might joke I came and went
And snigger she's a whore
But there's two people know it meant much more

Looking back was not allowed that morning so
We stuck by what we'd said
Rose and left without regret
But for a moment it was touch and go

We both agreed we felt the need to touch and go
But oh, you know, it was touch and go

Quote:
I have a secret to tell
From my electrical well
It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells
So the room must listen to me
Filibuster vigilantly
My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e
My story's infinite
Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest

This IS a funny love song, drom...
But I guess lovers hail from where they are comfortable, be in
in a switch on the wall, under the pillow, or from a photo.

I like it.

I love that song! I bought "Flood", the album by They Might be Giants, just because of that song.

Takes me back...14 years!

Cav: I love those two songs that you've mentioned, and nearly all the songs that Costello wrote. Have you heard 'Shipbuilding?'

I like it too, Jackie; it's quite an unusual way of expressing such an emotion, but it's so refreshing compared to the myriad obvious songs churned out today.

KP: Wow! That's exactly what I did Very Happy! People thought that I was mad, but that song is something special...

'Californication:'

Psychic spies from China
Try to steal your mind's elation
Little girls from Sweden
Dream of silver screen quotations
And if you want these kind of dreams
It's Californication

It's the edge of the world
And all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East
At least it settles in the final location
It's understood that Hollywood
sells Californication

Pay your surgeon very well
To break the spell of aging
Celebrity skin is this your chin
Or is that war your waging

Chorus:
First born unicorn
Hard core soft pórn
Dream of Californication
Dream of Californication

Marry me girl be my fairy to the world
Be my very own constellation
A teenage bride with a baby inside
Getting high on information
And buy me a star on the boulevard
It's Californication

Space may be the final frontier
But it's made in a Hollywood basement
Cobain can you hear the spheres
Singing songs off station to station
And Alderon's not far away
It's Californication

Born and raised by those who praise
Control of population everybody's been there
and
I don't mean on vacation

Chorus

Destruction leads to a very rough road
But it also breeds creation
And earthquakes are to a girl's guitar
They're just another good vibration
And tidal waves couldn't save the world
From Californication

Pay your surgeon very well
To break the spell of aging
Sicker than the rest
There is no test
But this is what you're craving

Chorus

Electing to a change of pace--
Since I heard this SUNG recently, I have acquired the words, because it is so beautiful, and full of hope.

Dream on
When Joseph was a little boy, he was driven by his dream.
God trusted him, told him that He'd chosen him.
When others didn't understand, Joseph still believed,
And trusted Him,
Trusted and was willing to

(chorus)
Dream On,
When the world just didn't believe.
God had promised never to leave him alone
Dream on,
Follow hope wherever it leads.
In the seed of dreams, there's promise of the dawn.
Dare to listen for the music,
Keep on following the star.
Morning can't be far,
Dream on

(Verse 2)
There's not a valley deep enough that He can't lead you through.
He'll walk with you, walk the roughest roads with you.
No mountain ever rose so high that you can't climb with Him.
And stand up tall, stand and look down on it all

chorus

Beautiful Dreamer

Melody - Stephen C. Foster, 1825-1864 his last song

Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me.
Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee;
Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,
Lull'd by the moonlight, have all pass'd away!
Beautiful dreamer, queen of my song,
List while I woo thee with soft melody;
Gone are the cares of life's busy throng.
|: Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, out on the sea.
Mermaids are chaunting the wild lorelie;
Over the streamlet vapors are borne,
Waiting to fade at the bright coming morn,
Beautiful dreamer, beam on my heart,
E'en as the morn' on the streamlet and sea;
Then will all clouds of sorrow depart,
|: Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Dancin' where the stars go blue
Dancin' where the evening fell
Dancin' in your wooden shoes
In a wedding gown

Dancin' out on 7th street
Dancin' through the underground
Dancin' little marionette
Are you happy now?

Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue

Laughing with your pretty mouth
Laughing with your broken eyes
Laughing with your lover's tongue
In a lullaby

Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue
The stars go blue, stars go blue

A couple of my favourite
here's a song composed by Mark Rae and Steve Christian
Lyrics by M Rae

Don't say i didn't try to keep it togehter,
try to make something greater,
expectations can float like a feather or
sink like stones gone forever,
won't we gonna be the chosen few
I'll guess we'll never know
and it should have been the same for you
now I'm asking what are we going to do?

Salvation in the arms of another
destinations apart from eachother

Too much to ask to always be true
daylight brings reality through
Even friends can lose the flow
I never thought to let it grow
Now we're forced to make all the moves
with nothing to prove
diggin up the seeds that we have sown
We've learned to much now there's nothing to prove
And i oh i try to let i pass me by
So that i oh i never have to question why.

Salvation in the arms of another
destinations apart from eachother

Heres an Eryka Badu track i love
"Bag Lady"

Bag lady you gone hurt your back
Dragging all them bags like that
I guess nobody ever told you
All you must hold on to
Is you, is you, is you

One day all them bags gone get in your way
One day all them bags gone get in your way
I said one day all them bags gone get in your way
One Day all them bags gone get in your way

So pack light
Pack light
Pack light
Ooh ooh

Bag lady you gone miss your bus
You can't hurry up
Cause you got too much stuff
When they see you comin
Niggas take off runnin
>From you it's true oh yes they do

One day he gone say you crowdin my space
One day he gone say you crowdin my space
I said one day he gone say you crowdin my space
One day he gone say you crowdin my space

So pack light
Pack light
Pack light
Ooh ooh

Girl I know sometimes it's hard
And we can't let go
Oh when someone hurts you oh so bad inside
You can't deny it you can't stop crying
So oh, oh, oh
If you start breathin
Then you won't believe it
You'll feel so much better
(So much better baby)

Bag lady
Let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go
Ooh, ooh
Girl you don't need it
I betcha love can make it better
Betcha love can make it better
Betcha love can make it better
(Need someone to love you right)
Betcha love can make it better
(I betcha love, betcha love)
Betcha love can make it better * 10

Bag lady, hmm
Let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go
Girl you don't need that, hmm

I like them, TL, especially the latter;I've never heard of Eryka Badu before, but I'll check her out..

I love the following song, an upbeat number by Beck called 'Bottle of Blues.'

I just found me a bottle of blues
Some strange comfort for a soul to soothe
Ain't it hard, ain't it hard
To want somebody who doesn't want you?

And I been waiting for a year and a day
Some strange weather must be blowing my way
'Cause I got no mind to go or to stay
Or be left behind

Holding hands with an impotent dream
In a brothel of fake energy
Put a nickel in a graveyard machine
I get higher and lower
I get higher and lower
Like a tired soldier with nothing to shoot
And nowhere to lose this bottle of blues

Egos drone and pose alone
Like black balloons all banged and blown
On a backwoods river
The infidels shiver in the stench of belief

And tell my momma I'm a hundred years late
I'm over the rails and out of the race
And the crippled psalms of an age that won't thaw
Are ringing in my ears

Holding hands with an impotent dream
In a brothel of fake energy
Put a nickel in a graveyard machine
I get higher and lower
I get higher and lower
Like a tired soldier with nothing to shoot
And nowhere to lose this bottle of blues

Well, I just found me a bottle of blues
Some strange comfort for a soul to soothe
Ain't it hard, ain't it hard
To want somebody who doesn't want you?

Holding hands with an impotent dream
In a brothel of fake energy
Put a nickel in a graveyard machine
I get higher and lower
I get higher and lower
Like a tired soldier with nothing to shoot
And nowhere to lose this bottle of blues
Bottle of blues

'Lazy Flies'

Lazy flies all hovering above
The magistrate
He puts on his gloves
And he looks to the clouds
All pink and disheveled
There must be some blueprint
Some creed of the devil
Inscribed in our minds

A hideous game
Vanishes in the air
The vanity of slaves
Who wants to be there
To sweep the debris
To harness dead horses
To ride in the sun
A life of confessions
Written in the dust

Out in the mangroves
The mynah birds cry
In the shadows of sulphur
The trawlers drift by
They're chewing dried meat
In a house of disrepute
The dust of opiates
And syphilis patients
On brochure vacations

Fear has a glare
That traps you like searchlights
The puritans stare
Their souls are fluoresecent
The skin of a robot
Vibrates with pleasure
Matrons and gigolos
Carouse in the parlor
Their hand-grenade eyes
Invalid and blind

A hideous game
Vanishes in the air
The vanity of slaves
Who wants to be there
To sweep the debris
To harness dead horses
To ride in the sun
A life of confessions
Written in the dust

Dead Flag Blues
Godspeed You Black Emperor

This monologue appears at the beginning of the dead flag blues from the album f#a#oo; it comes from an incomplete movie about jail, an unfinished film that efrim wrote and has been working on for the last five years.

the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows
the government is corrupt
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn

we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
and the machine is bleeding to death

the sun has fallen down
and the billboards are all leering
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles

it went like this:

the buildings tumbled in on themselves
mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble
and pulled out their hair

the skyline was beautiful on fire
all twisted metal stretching upwards
everything washed in a thin orange haze

i said: "kiss me, you're beautiful -
these are truly the last days"

you grabbed my hand and we fell into it
like a daydream or a fever

we woke up one morning and fell a little further down -
for sure it's the valley of death

i open up my wallet
and it's full of blood

Nah, I think the film project is dead. I'm sure I mentioned this somewhere, but they did get a track on the movie "28 Days Later" which was perfect for the scenes it was used in. Unfortunately, it is not on the official soundtrack.

It is a real bummer, when they leave tracks from the soundtrack. 'High fidelity' had one of the greatest soundtracks ever, with about 80 songs, and-- instead of offering four CDs-- they just trimmed the songs down to twelve.

Incidentally, the following unusual use of rap is one of the most 'thoroughly popular' songs ever in England. I don't think that it's that great, nor can I see the big deal, but everyone is calling the writer 'an urban poet.' I think it's nice, but it doesn't deserve to be so legendary.

Dry your eyes - The Streets

In one single moment your whole life can turn round,
I stand there for a minute staring straight into the ground,
Looking to the left slightly, then looking back down,
World feels like it's caved in; proper sorry frown.
Please let me show you where we could only just be, for us.
I can change and I can grow, or we could adjust.
The wicked thing about us is we always have trust;
We can even have an open relationship, if you must.
I look at ther, she stares almost straight back at me,
But her eyes glaze over like she looking straight through me;
Then her eyes must have closed for what seems an eternity,
When they open up she's looking down at her feet.

[chorus:
Dry your eyes, mate;
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up.
There's plenty more fish in the sea.
Dry your eyes mate;
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts,
But you've got to walk away now;
It's over]

So then I move my hand up from down by my side,
It's shaking, my life is crashing before my eyes,
Turn the palm of my hand up to face the skies,
Touch the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh.
As I can't imagine my life without you and me.
There's things I can't imagine doing, things I can't imagine seeing;
It weren't supposed to be easy, surely,
Please, please, I beg you, please.
She brings her hands up towards where my hands rested,
Wraps her fingers round mine with the softness she's blessed with;
She peels away my fingers, looks at me and then gestures,
By pushing my hand away to my chest, from hers.

[chorus]

Trying to pull her close out of bare desperation,
Put my arms around her trying to change what she's saying,
Pull my head level with hers so she might engage in
Look in her eyes to make her listen again.
You're gonna let our things simply crash and fall down?
You're well out of order, this is well out of town.
She pulls away, my arms are tightly clamped round her waist,
Gently pushes me back and she looks at me straight.
Turns around so she's now got her back to my face.
Takes one step forward, looks back, and then walks away.

[chorus]
[chorus again]
It's over.

Hey, Tol! It's great to see you around again.

Thank you about the signature line; it really sums up my way of thinking. I think that everyone should try to keep their sense of absolute hope throughout life. Bad times are never made better by thinking bleakly, and trying to find bad during good times is just selfish. People should look up at the stars more often, in this life.

To all of you who posted poetry since I have been gone...
keep it up. The poetry of life weaves in and out, up and down in the atmosphere of our universe daily... and those who grasp it, enjoy it-- and share it with others, are the ones who benefit.

And no, I am sorry, I am not returning to post regularly. There is much in my life to hinder it, but I read you beautiful writers when I can.

"I'm headed down that lone highway-

headed down that lone highway...

It's a long, long road ahead

And the lonliness my bed-

Goin' down this lone highway"
