New Year
To leave the old with a burst of song;
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the things that bind you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that's past;
To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the not worth while of the days grown old;
To dare go forth with a purpose true,
To the unknown task of the year that's new;
To help your brother along the road,
To do his work and lift his load;
To add your gift to the world's good cheer,
Is to have and to give a Happy New Year.

EVERY BREATH 'I' TAKE
Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take
I'll be watching you
Every single day
And every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay
I'll be watching you
Oh, can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake,
every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
STING
(It does get old and it does 'sting')
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE

I have paused to read the beautiful lyrics shared by Cav for all our consumption and the beautiful conversations. I cannot fathom there will not be more, with someone.
What a beautiful way he wrote. So long Cav. love you, jackie.

Kris Kristofferson - Why me
Why me Lord?
What have I ever done
To deserve even one
Of the pleasures
I've known
Tell me Lord-
What did I ever do
That was worth loving you
Or the kindness
You've shown.
Lord help me Jesus,
I've wasted it so
Help me Jesus
I know what I am
Now that I know
That I've need you so
Help me Jesus,
My soul's in your hand.
Tell me Lord
If you think there's a way
I can try to repay
All I've taken
From YOU
Maybe Lord
I can show someone else
What I've been through myself
On my way back
To YOU.
Lord help me Jesus
I've wasted it so
Help me Jesus
I know what I am
Now that I know
That I've need you so
Help me Jesus
My soul's in your hand.

Simon & Garfunkle...true poetry
It's a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
The borders of our lives.
And you read your Emily Dickinson,
And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what we've lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
And the dangled conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.
Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
"Can analysis be worthwhile?"
"Is the theater really dead?"
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
You're a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

Old friends, old friends
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blown thru the grass
Falls on the round toes, on the high shoes
Of the old friends
Old friends
Winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting thru trees
Settle like dust on the shoulders
Of the old friends
B: Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be 70
Old Friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fear

Dead man in my bed
She sat in a wicker chair, her eyes they were downcast
She breathed in the future, by breathing out the past
The die is done, the die is shook, the die is duly cast
There is a dead man in my bed, she said
That smile you see upon his face
It's been there for many days
There's a dead man in my bed
I ain't been feeling that good too much no more, she said, I swear
She pointed at the bedroom door and said I ain't going in there
She leaped out of her seat and screamed someone's not concentrating here
There is a dead man in my bed, she said
I ain't speaking metaphorically
His eyes are open but he cannot see
There's a dead man in my bed
The leaves outside the window waved, all brown, they were, and falling
Even I could tell the atmosphere in here was utterly appalling
The phone it rang incessantly but nobody was calling
There's a dead man in my bed, she said
And though he keeps on taking notes
I swear this ain't some kind of hoax
Dead man in my bed
Now she's in the kitchen, rattling those pots and pans
I'd cook him something nice, she said, but he refuses to wash his hands
He used to be so good to me, now he smells so f....... bad
There is a dead man in my bed, she said
I keep poking at him with my stick
But his skin is just so f...... thick
There's a dead man in my bed
We've gotta get it all together
We've gotta get it all together
We've gotta get it all together
We've gotta get it all together

Just heard this .... 'Five for fighting' 100 years. Try not to think back on this one.
I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I'm 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
I'm 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I'm a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mind
I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15 I'm all right with you
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
Half time goes by
Suddenly you're wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on...
I'm 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
15 there's still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you're on your way
Every day's a new day...
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

That is a most interesting lyric... a song of 15.
As I remember, it was a very interesting year of my life too-- being 15--
the longest one.
(that is, besides 5).
Thanks for your great contributions... do find some more.
love, jackie

Tonight I post this with someone special in mind...
True poetic lyrics -
Sitting alone - in an old rocking chair
I saw an old mother,
with silvery hair.
She seemed so neglected
By those who should care,
Rocking alone, in an old rocking chair
Her hands were all caloused
Wrinkled and old
A life of hard work was the story they told
And I've thought of angels as I saw her there
Rockin' alone in an old rockin' chair
Bless her old heart
Do you think she'd complain?
Though life has been bitter
She'd live it again
And carry the cross that is more than her share
Rockin' alone in an old rockin' chair
It wouldn't take much
To gladden her heart
Just some small remembrance
On somebody's part
A letter would brighten her empty life there
Rockin' alone in an old rockin' chair
I look at her and I think
What a shame
The ones who forgot her
She loves just the same
And I think of angels
As I see her there
Rockin' alone in an old rockin' chair

Thanks bsingh5, for your sharing.
Here are some more verses on the subject:
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
: "A Psalm of Life" (1838), cf Hippocrates.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, American poet, 1807-82.
Geoffrey Chaucer (c. 1343-1400).
"The Parliament of Fowls"
: That lyf so short,
: the craft so long to learne,
: Th' assay so hard,
: so sharp the conquerynge.

THEY are not long, the weeping and the laughter,
Love and desire and hate:
I think they have no portion in us after
We pass the gate.
They are not long, the days of wine and roses:
Out of a misty dream
Our path emerges for a while, then closes
Within a dream.

I really like this one georgeob1
And I love to hear it sung from the movie too...
The days of wine and roses
laugh and run away
like a child at play
Through the meadow land toward a closing door
A door marked "nevermore"
that wasn't there before...
The lone-ly night discloses
just a passing breeze
filled with memories
Of the golden smile
that introduced me to
The days of wine and roses
And you

(This lyrical poetry carries a real message, doncha' think?)
Dont wanna think about you
by: Simple Plan
Can you leave me here alone now
I dont wanna hear you say
That you know me
That I should be always doin what you say
Cause Im tryin' to get through today
And there's one thing I know
-Chorus-
I dont wanna think about you
or think about me
Dont wanna figure this out
I dont wanna think about you
or think about nothin'
Dont wanna talk this one out
I won't let you bring me down
'cause I know, I don't wanna think about you,
don't wanna think about you
When I wake up here tomorrow
Things will never be the same
Cause I won't wait
Cause you won't change
And you'll always be this way
Now I'm gonna get through today
And there's one thing I know
-Chorus-
I dont wanna think about you
or think about me
Dont wanna figure this out
I dont wanna think about you
or think about nothin'
Dont wanna talk this one out
This time I won't let you bring me down
Won't let you shut me out
'This time I know, I don't wanna think about you
Run away, run away, running as fast as I can
Run away, run away, I'll never come back again
Run away, run away
(I don't wanna think about you
or think about me
Dont wanna figure this out
I don't wanna think about you
or think about me
Dont wanna talk this one out)
-Chorus-
I don't wanna think about you
or think about me
Dont wanna figure this out
I don't wanna think about you
or think about nothin'
Dont wanna talk this one out
This time I won't let you bring me down
Won't let you shut me out
'This time I know, I don't wanna think about you,
Run away, run away ,I dont wanna think about you

More S & G
Bright Eyes
Is it a kind of dream,
Floating out on the tide,
Following the river of death downstream?
Oh, is it a dream?
There's a fog along the horizon,
A strange glow in the sky,
And nobody seems to know where you go,
And what does it mean?
Oh, is it a dream?
Bright eyes,
Burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes.
Is it a kind of shadow,
Reaching into the night,
Wandering over the hills unseen,
Or is it a dream?
There's a high wind in the trees,
A cold sound in the air,
And nobody ever knows when you go,
And where do you start,
Oh, into the dark.
Bright eyes,
burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
how can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes.

SONG TO THE SIREN
This Mortal Coil's version
On the floating, shipless oceans,
I did all my best to smile
til your singing eyes and fingers
drew me onto your isle.
And you sang, "Sail to me...
Sail to me... Let me enfold you.
Here I am; here I am,
waiting to hold you."
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning,
broken lovelorn on your rocks.
For you sing, "Touch me not;
touch me not, come back tomorrow."
Oh my heart... oh my heart shies from the sorrow.
Well I'm as puzzled as a newborn child;
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amidst the breakers,
or should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me;
swim to me, let me enfold you.
Here I am... here I am, waiting to hold you."
