I dont think its the best or the most beautiful painting in the world but I have been a huge fan of Leonardo Da Vinci for years(pre the da vinci code book.Im currently reading his notebooks and his biography)
I believe he painted the Mona Lisa (believed to be a lady called Lisa Del Gioconda)over 15 years taking it with him wherever he went.
I think the fact that the artist is Da vinci makes the painting elevate to its huge status.
Da Vinci mastered painting, he studied human anatomy, flight, invented the tank, parachute, hang gliders, large crossbow, scuba diving gear, he could sculpt and goodness knows what else.
He's a seriously impressive guy .

he is a pretty impressive guy - but I'm not fond of this painting!

He was also cantakerous, seriously dirty and smelly, wearing the same clothes day and night for weeks on end, and constantly in trouble!

There are artists whose work I much prefer.

In placing a landscape behind the portrait (?), De Vinci revolutionized composition. That's really a bad reproduction favoring the blue chroma. Before VOOM satellite's demise there was a hi-def art program on their art channel which had a shot of Mona and it was sumptuous, displaying the enigmatic smile in all its glory. The landscape behind her was striking.

The Mona Lisa, or La Gioconda, also has generated intriguing speculation that it's a self-portrait. here's a comparison:

The power of attraction of Mona-Lisa is due to her inner feelings:
Wisdom,Love,Purity and Peace which irresistibly attract all people almost instinctively even if they are not into painting arts. These values are the true inner Self of every human being, spiritual or animal.
It is as simple as that, but people like dreaming and complicating to make bestsellers and especially personal wealth.

Eh, it's ok. Like it and stuff but definitely don't think it's the best ever.

I want to say Leonardo was an incredibly advanced man and among painters he was certanly the bigest spirit.
Feu others from the rennaissance period of high quality:
Michelangelo,Raphaello,ElGreco,Veronese.
If they were composers they would compose as well as Mozart,Bethoveen and Bach for ex.
