Hi, everyone.
When viewing a description of a Rembrandt print, the letter and number combinations after the title refer to catalog authors. What are the names of the authors for the following abbreviations...
B.
Holl.
H.
B.B.
I have searched for hours and can't find the answer to this. If you can help me by referring me to a website - i would truly appreciate it.
The B. is for A. Bartsch, Catalogue raisonné de toutes les Estampes .. de Rembrandt .. Vienna, 1797
That's all I know.
I'm just guessing here, but could it be the initials of whoever pulled the print? Back then, the artist would hire a printmaker to print their edition - and sometimes that artist signed it.
