The Friggin' Really Arrogant Debater

You ever felt like you could take any side of any subject and build a plausible case for it?

I mean, is there anything we know for sure, that can't be debated?

Well how about we're all gonna die?

I guess you could debate afterlife.

Ben:-

Easy.

Taxis spread diseases, reduce profits in the bus and car industries, encourage people to go on unneccessary journeys, are noisy, pollutimg and are often driven dangerously.

Even I could argue with that.

The Gov't debates taxis when it is deciding how to regulate them.Probably for days on end with sub-committees,white papers,1st 2nd and 3rd readings,Royal assents and implementations by local authorities. They probably make a meal out of it.Maybe a good few.

You'll probably find the record of heated debates about taxis in Hansard.

No problem.

HELLO!! of COURSE there is!!!! How can you doubt it? History proves it. All the evidence demonstrates nothing else!! Besides the burden of proof lies squarely on your shoulders, not mine!

The Cogito seems self evident.

I hear what your saying though.

Yes, that everything can be debated.

And Eorl, history proves nothing. We can't even agree on what is true history.

"Cogitas ergo sum" can also be debated. I think, or do I? Maybe I'm just the recipient of some mental postalservice.

Nothing is absolute exept for the fact that everything changes.

One thought occured to me: If everything is debatable, then no one can be right or wrong...

No. It is a predetermined value that signifies the precence of nothing. But nothing is an illution. There's always something.

Things can only be absolute if you put a set of criteria before them. If this and that, then bla bla bla.. Smile

It holds a place on the number line, Cyracuz. Okay, so philosophy is "questions with no answers"

I'd say, questions that are answered by questions. Hopefully better, more specific, useful, insightful, precise questions.

and you, djbt, who are you? I know that Extra Medium is from the islands where they "just sing in their chains like the sea."

That's a useful,specific,insightful and precise question, no?

Er... my name's David. I don't like usernames, but I put in my initials on a whim, 'cause I clearly lack the wit and imagination of others... but to answer your question, I should ask myself 'what am I?', then 'what is I?', then 'does I exist?', then, 'is I singular?'... But I doubt anybody would be interested in me talking to myself...

Well, you just made me laugh, David, so that says a lot more than just I, you, he, it, she, singular or plural.

You, know, folks. No one, neither scientists nor philosophers have ever explained that singular expression.

Well, see? This has become an affable debate. To many, that would be "NO FUN".

The girls do like to pretend to be chained up sometimes though. And some even sing while so chained. A cat like song.
