My god, even I can barely remember that.
When we first got a television (1956?), there was only a single station to tune into, which did not broadcast 24 hours a day, and didn't come on the air on Sundays until "after church." But, they broadcast
Sgt Preston of the Yukon on Sunday afternoon (right after the Holy Rollers), and it was one of my favs . . . i recall being very disappointed to learn that the Northwest Mounted Police were no more (in that incarnation, at the least), and likely wouldn't have taken an American boy into their employ. A little saddened also (although without poignancy) to learn more of history later on than is consistent with idolizing the image of Sgt. Preston.
It is still one of my favorite "early tv" memories . . .
