nice guess, but much further north. it's not a large city, but is fairly close to one. if you guess the nearby city, you get full credit. Smile

Well, Yit. I don't know about roses, but I am up and I still haven't a clue. You did say that the place was around 200 miles north of Yokohama, but since that doesn't show on your map, I will simply guess Watari.

Well, that's a plus. I will say this, M.D. I cannot believe how many islands there are. I researched the four major ones, but that did not help one bit, I'm afraid. So, I guess Letty will have to have more definite info.

ahem, Sendai is the nearby metropolis, so the place in question is along the coast, close to Sendai. and the map shows Miyagi prefecture, so googling Miyagi sightseeing is a possibility.

it's not listed by name on your map, no. if we go back to my Miyagi map, the town lies along a bay.

there's also a rather inadequate english to japanese dictionary here:

if you look up 'pine tree' (not pine) then 'island', and combine the results, you'll get the name you're looking for.
