Here it is, only I'll leave out the part that describes it, so that you can see what I'm talking about:

Well, I'll pass on this one, so that I won't hold the game up, any longer. I apologize for the delay.

That is an excellent answer, Imur. But technically, this picture was not taken in Mexico.

Other hints (edited excerpts):
"George Ruxton, an English adventurer traveled across it during the mid-1800's."

"Around the time of World War I, a processing plant for a certain native desert shrub from which rubber can be extracted, was established in a town across which this desert stretches."

OK, it appears to be the Chihuahuan Desert, New Mexico?

My knowledge of US geography is sadly lacking. That's why I enjoy this game so much - there's much to learn.

Must go.. golfing. Nice meeting you, PoetSeductress.

YOU HAVE THE DESERT RIGHT! You're doing great, Imur! But although it does expand into Mexico, this photo was taken in the United States. And it wasn't New Mexico.

It was nice meeting you too, Imur.

Well, since you already got half of it right (what the photo is picturing) all you have to do is guess thother half... where this part of the desert is taken.

What state in the United States is it?

It's past my bedtime, so I'll have to post the rest here:

(The following posts are edited excerpts):

"The Chihuahuan Desert has a rich biological diversity that includes many plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth."

"Coyotes, jackrabbits, and rattlesnakes are only recent new-comers to western part of this southern state. Throughout most of its early history, this area has been covered by warm, shallow seas that had an abundance of clams, snails, and corals, as well as other marine life forms."

VOLCANOES in the Chihuahuan Desert of this state!

"The city previously referred to in the western part of this state also has a violent recent history. There is a volcanic field just west of the city, and it has more than 200 volcanoes, all fairly recent, geologically speaking. Earthquakes, although uncommon, shake the area from time to time."

What state is this???
