But you are now in the correct department
Les Andelys
http://www.ville-andelys.fr/fr/
This one definitely has an island.
It's Les Andelys - good find, Piffka!
Here's a pic, I think:
This makes me crazy that I was so stupid and callow when I was traveling along the Seine... why didn't we stop for some of these places instead of charging straight to Paris?? I think we were spending out time right here looking at the old castle.

Oh, whew. Beautiful spot, Walter -- thanks for posting it!
Okay... let me see. I did have a pair of photographs... Where in the world is this and why am I featuring this place? Extra points if you can what you are standing on.
Looking one way...
Looking the other...

We (at least I do, mostly the wife joins me) stay there once per year for a couple of hours up tp several days
(I DO like
this hotel for it's place  )
Fabulous, Walter. Do you rent a boat there?
We had such a great time, despite our lack of tourism smarts and stamina, when we cruised from Le Havre to Paris. I only wish now that we'd been wiser and had more time. Nowadays, we've often talked about taking a barge trip or finding a boat to do that again. The first time we were on a 50-foot sailboat (with the masts stepped). It was sort of an ugly-looking tub without the sails, but it floated well and had cabins for everyone. I think it took us four or five days, but I can't quite remember. We stopped at night, of course. That was a very busy river then; I suppose it is even busier now.
No, we just use
this hotel
(or a nice 'Chambre d'hôte in Cherence

)
as center for our stay(s).
Edited: missing link added
It is so picturesque it nearly takes my breath away. There must be some strict rules for keeping development at bay...
(I edited my above link and added the missing link for the hotel)
Back to business:
USA?
Your link works but only in French, Walter. I am impressed at the good value though -- views of the river for less than 60 Euros? I couldn't tell if that was per person or per room but it looks like a nice place. I'm going to send that website to myself for my dream vacation folder. Thanks.
Piffka, I dream of my vacation as well - except I only have
2 weeks until then.....
So where are we? I've been too busy today...<sigh>
Looks like the west coast ?
Jane? Only two weeks.. wunderbar!!! It is on the west coast. (I'm so predictable.)
Intrepid, it is not Alaska.
I may have to leave in a while... I can tell you that this place is IN THE NEWS where I am.
Not Seattle... but you could find this if you looked at the Seattle papers... nudge, nudge... hint, hint.
