It was all such a whirl of mediocre buildings... I grew to sort of like the wavy splendor, especially in plan view.

You're so right, of course TTH.
I could kick myself for going by it; I walked between the walls of Lucca for four days, with particular interest in the amphiteatro, about a block away from that hotel. I have a soft spot for buildings with advanced age and much patina, but must have been distracted. Indeed, I remember taking photos of bicycles and dogs...
