Good job, CJ. The "Bamiyan Afghanistan Laser Project", proposed for 2012. The original Buddhas were destroyed by the Taliban back in 2001.

Well, I agree they are much more interesting than submarines, however they're a long way from LaJoya.

My bet this is a 1970's design German deisel submarine, and the set up in the photograph is for some kind of museum or display -- in Germany.

I don't follow you Water. The FGR had submarines back then - indeed they were one of the few western countries building modern deisel boats then. This could be a British boat, I suppose, but, except for the Tang class (only 4 built) it couldn't be one of ours.

I deletd the post Georges above response responses to.

What I wanted to say is only, George, that submarines from 1944 look ... well, very similar to the one on CJ's pic.

George, it's not a German design, and unfortunately it's not for
museum purposes either.

Well Walter, that's why the Germans didn't design this one. They
wouldn't have used such old technology, right? Laughing It's actually a
fairly new submarine...

(Actually, I was supposed to serve on a submarine - would have been the first and only conscript on one - but I convinced them that I could swim but not dive very good. Laughing )
