Japan it is, and it's Obon as well, but can you come up with a particular temple? it's the main temple of one prominent sect/tradition. or can you at least name the sect/tradition?

you got it. it's Eiheiji temple in Fukui, Japan, established by Dogen, the founder of Soto Zen.
