different significance between total scale means and subscale means

I am conducting a comparison between pre and post scales. the scale contain reversing items. when I use a paired sample t-test to compare the development of my variable, I find that the development in the total scale is significant (p<.05), but when I compare the subscale (pre and post) I find that the difference is not significant. So how should I interpret the results, is there a development in my construct or no? thank you for answering
