Now I know some of you, if not all of you are going to laugh, but this is truly a serious question on something I need help with, so try to control your laughter.
This is a problem I've had before and I don't know how to get rid of it. I started getting these porn site pop ups that just won't stop. I never go to porn sites as it's not my bag, but these sites just start poping up out of the blue and I can't stop it. I've called my brother who is a computer tech and asked him how can this stuff start poping up out of no where when I never go to those sites and he told me that you don't have to go to those sites for this to happen and that's how aggresive these porn people are. I did notice this happening when I go to anything concerning teenagers, like I went to go to a thread here on A2K about a teenager that was missing and then found, but these porn sites go pop crazy to the point that I can't even post on that thread. I click out one pop up and another one comes up and on and on one after another. A few of them even inbedded themselves in my computer programs and even started dialing out out of the blue. I am furious to say the least. So far I've installed 3 pop up stoppers and they get rid of all my pop ups except the porn. I really need some advice on how to stop this before I start ripping some porn face off.

HELP!!!!!!

They pop-up while you are on A2k? Not when you click on a link to go somewhere outside A2k, but when you are in A2k and you go to that thread? I've never heard of that before, we need someone who knows their stuff. I've been to a porn site or two by accident Rolling Eyes, and get porn spam sometimes, but it always goes away when I leave whatever the site is. Sounds like something is installed on your computer - I don't know enough to say whether a mere cookie could do that. I don't think so.

And I never laughed at you.

Have you tried deleting all your cookies and deleting your History? Or gone to Add/Remove Programs and seen if any odd programs are installed on your computer?

This happened once before. Keep in mind that I have a 15 year old son which I don't monitor on the computer. He's to old for me to be looking over his shoulder. Anyway, when this happened before, it was the same sites that are poping up now which are disgusting to me. I'm so desperate to stop this.

Yes, I did do that, but I guess I'm going to have to take a whole day like I did before to rid of them. I know after talking to my brother that I was able to get rid of it before, but I don't want to bother him now because his dog just died. This is awful!!!!

I'm searching online to see if a help site addresses this. Maybe there is something easy you can do. But I bet someone like craven could help a lot. Do you have Norton Utilities or something similar? It monitors things that have been downloaded and installed on your computer, and allows you to find them and get rid of them.

Is there a setting on my computer where I can completely eliminate any kind of porn?
To answer your question before. Yes, I just went to a thread on A2K about a tennage girl who was missing for 8 months and then found and bam, all this porn was flooding my screen. I can't even respond to that thread because by the time I'm done clicking out the porn, I lose the thread as well and end up back at my desktop.

"Missing Teen Elizabeth Smart Found Alive"? I just went there and had no problems. Are you sure it only happens more when you go to that thread alone? Seems unrelated to A2k and whatever thread you're on. I have Norton Systemworks 2002, and the utility is called Norton Clean Sweep.

It started on another thread last night by cicerone imposter, but I can't remember the thread and this is the second time it happened here.
Is that norton a free system?

Norton Systemworks costs money, but you may have been able to get just the virus scanner somewhere for free. You say it has actually dialed up something on your modem?

If some programs are installed, you may be able to delete them.

Try this:

Search files with file name ".exe" in your hard drive with an option of dates of a week old or so. If .exe files are listed up, check the dates of files. Find the one with the most recent date. Make a new folder in the folder where the .exe file is placed and transfer the .exe file to the new folder. See the effects of the isolation of the file. If nothing changes return the .exe file to the original place. Try a few candidates of them.
If the problem solved by isolating the .exe file, keep the file there for a while, as it may not be the true cause of the problem and actually the file can be useful for other purposes. Write down the file name and that of the folder where the file is isolated, for a later reference.
(Warning: This process is not very safe for the working of your computer. Be careful to be able to return the .exe file to the original place.)

Yes. Two different ones entered my programs and started dialing out by themselves. I deleted them from my programs and I just deleted my cookies, so I'm hoping. I'm trying to remember what I did the last time to get rid of the problem, but I remember it took me days of doing maintenance on my computer.

Again, I'm not the expert, but if I had that problem I'd delete cookies, delete my history in Internet Explorer, delete Temporary Internet Files (have you done that?), and go to Add/Remove Programs and see if there is anything out of the ordinary installed. You should also try going to Tools, Internet Options in Internet Explorer and increase your security level to prevent every single cookie from being installed when you go to a site.

I did most of that. I deleted my temporary files, deleted these things from my programs as they were installed, and deleted my cookies, but I don't know how to delete my history from my explorer or increase my security level.

Your Internet Explorer might be slightly different from mine. There should be an icon or an option somewhere in one of your toolbars or menus above to bring up History. Up top in your toolbar where all the icons are, is there an icon with two little arrows on it, ones that say Search, Favorites, Media? The History icon is usually a little sundial. If you click on it, your history pops up on the left of your screen.

But you should also be able to delete history by going to Tools/Internet Options, "Clear History."

1) It's not a cookie. The problem you describe involes at least a porn dialer but the contextual triggering of the pop up smacks of scum ware (I'll explain).

2) Most anti virus software would not recognize it as it is not technically a virus in most cases.

3) satts instructions are good ones but in case you are not comfortable with them you can try a system restore (but since you did not say what operating system you use I can't tell you if you have this option).

4) As to the popup happening with a particular page this can be several things. a) There is "scum ware" that is essentially adware that serves advertisements over the content of other sites. So this sotware would have assumed you wanted to see porn based on the word teen. I am not well versed in the legality of this practice but I do know that scum ware has already suffered a defeat in court. I mention the shady background of this kind of software because it's why it's hard to remove. More on this later. b) Some browsers ISPs, proxy servers, etc support themselves by using this kind of targeted advertising. You didn't mention your ISP/browsing specifications but I doubt this is the case due to the dialing.

How to get rid of it:
It's not always easy. Some of this kind of software will reinstall itself. In many cases there will be more than one program. And the names are not always obvious. A system restore is your best bet.

System restore is a Windows function that restores your registry and the applications installed on your computer from a past date. It will not delete your documents. The only changes it makes involve undoing system changes so you shouldn't lose emails, documents etc using it.

Now, you can try to discover what program is responsible but it may take time to be sure you have it (satts method is a good way to go about it).

If you want faster and greater certainty format and reinstall. lol

I don't envy you, these things are nightmares to deal with. On a network I operated a guy downloaded one of these and I simply unplugged him from the network until he solved it, after much frustration he formatted.

So you can try to restore your system, locate the .exe file(s) that are doing this, or format.

And no there is no real way to block ANY porn. There are many programs and services for this but it won't work in ANY situation (and porn webmasters use every trick in the book).

BTW If this problem is very recent there is a greater chance of solving it.

So let us know what OS you use, that would make the difference between trying a system restore or something else.

Your Windows version might be different, but if you use Internet Options to delete that stuff, there might also be a "Clear History" button near those options to delete Temp files.
