I've always heard "The Flicks" rather than "Flick".

There's actually a cable channel "FLIX." But the expression, "Let's take in a flick," is not uncommon. Of course, it's an old term based on the early silents "flickering" due to fewer frames per second.

My great grandmother still called them TALKIES
or TALKING PICTURES until she died in the 80's
(She was 95)

Personally, I don't think there really is any difference between "films" and "movies"...any more than there is a difference between "theater" and "theatah"
