In the film Saving Private Ryan (1998), what 1990's events/themes influenced this film that took place in the 1940's during WW2.

You know how the year a film is made sometimes influences the actual film, I am trying to deeply analyze the film and trying to figure out how the 1990's theme influenced this supposed 1940's timeline in the film.

There was the first Iraq war, that meant people had seen active service. There was the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. Look how realistic and graphic the violence is compared to something like The Longest Day.
