You must be living in California - our energy bill keeps
going up and up and up......

Call your local energy company they have free pamphlets
in how to save energy and make your home energy
efficient.

When I last exchanged my old refrigereator for a new
energy efficient one, the electric company paid me 75 Dollar
for it and picked up the old refrigerator for free.

There are fluorescent bulbs that will screw into regular light sockets. We use them extensively around the house.

They are significantly cheaper at CostCo than at Home Depot or Lowe's, however. Shop around, or find them on the Internet.

CJ is right on with the appliance thingy. Try to invest in newer, energy saving appliances. That should help out some.

Here are some good tips.

Most people don't realize that a lot of money can be saved by spending some money.................for caulking, weatherstripping, and insulating your home. You don't want to heat or air condition the outdoors, but that is exactly what you are doing when your house is not properly sealed and insulated!

Also call your local utility company. Many of them will do a free home inspection and give you suggestions on how to improve your energy costs.

tyty, do you have an electric drier in your home? If so, you could save a bundle by changing to a gas drier. Electric driers are notorious electricity gobblers.

How do you like them? Last year, I replaced my home bulbs with O*ZONELite bulbs. They are energy efficient, they last forever and they cut my energy bills in half. They are more expensive then regular bulbs but they last SO much longer - I haven't had to buy new ones yet at all. They are also air purifying bulbs.. so my house never stinks anymore - which is a big change since I have 3 cats and 2 dogs!

I would have thought, in Sunny California, that you would have these all over the place......

They even work in dull weather, so winters bills will be drastically cut....

....and in the Summer, you can produce so much electricity, that you can SELL it back to the Electric Supplier!

Check it out over there....I'll bet they are cheaper to install, than over here in the UK.

These tiles are FAR more efficient than those bloody great glass things in the past. I am starting to see them on quite a few houses in my area.

An overview... http://www.bbc.co.uk/climate/adaptation/solar_power.shtml

Right Spanky, I will never understand why we're not making
better use of solar energy. There are only a handful of
contractors who install solar panels, and they ask a fortune
for the installation.

I wish, someone from Europe would come over here and
take on this job.
