Depends on what you define "sport" as.

Also which kind of cheerleading, I think.

I recently got a lot of good info on the subject when I was considering signing up my 4-y-o daughter for a cheerleading class. (Main attraction is it means she gets to be in parades and stuff.) Evidently a lot of schools field two separate squads -- one to travel with sports teams and rally the troops, and another to compete in cheerleading competitions.

I think the latter is a sport as much as gymnastics or ice skating.

Yeah, right. It's just another tactic in your attempt to turn her into a girly-girl.

I'd say that cheerleading is definitely a sport. The athleticism is great and the potential for injury, like in most any sport, is great as well.

Supposedly competitive cheerleading has a higher rate of injury than high school football.

Maybe high school football teams get a better grade of coaching, then.

High school football teams don't build pyramids or toss each other up into the air. Think circus.

1) Are cheerleaders playing a sport when they're cheering for the sport on the team? No.

2) Is there a video game by Playstation for cheerleading? I think not.

Therefore, it's not a sport.

But they do have "competitions."

How can anything with a judge determining the outcome be a sport. There is no objective. There is no goal. It is all upto interpretation.

Ed, r u saying gymnastics and figure skating aren't sports?

the objective in these competitive "events" is perfection.
the best way to determine perfection is by using judges....

CHEERLEADIN IS A SPORT.. LOOK IT UP IN THE DICTIONARY
ACCORDING TO THE DICTIONARY CHEERLEADING IS A SPORT

-A physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of a mass
-A contest or competition against or with an opponent
-Is governed by rules which explicitly define the time, space and purpose of the contest and the conditions under which a winner is declared
-The acknowledged primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants

AND IF ANYONE KNEW WHAT CHEERLEADING IS ALL ABOUT THAN THEY WOULD DEF. AGREE TO IT BEING A SPORT. AND PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT TYPE UP ARGUMENTS FOR THINGS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT Very Happy

IF YOU GOT ANY ?'S OR REPLIES EMAIL ME [email protected]

There was a game called "Excitebike."

It was about dirt bike racing.

You may ask, "well, Slappy, why is dirt bike racing a sport, and not cheerleading?"

And that, my friend, is a good question. My answer is....they don't have a cheerleading video game.

It's not a sport.

Do they have squash videogames? or Lacrosse? Maybe they do (wouldn't that be fun) but I've never heard of them, and they're sports.
There are dancing games! But they're not sports.

So I think we settle the fact that videogames don't make sports.

Just Me,

Take a deep breath and don't get your panties in a knot, sweetie. You have no clue about Slappy's humor. A bit of levity never hurts before you start calling people idiots.

What about kidnapping cheerleaders? Is that a sport? Like could you make money off it, other than holding them for ransom?

Just wondering.
