(Ex)Photographer Richard Sharabura
I've never met the man (author of "Shooting Your Way To A Million"), but I have worked as a photographer for his ex-wife, who edited & proofed the book (she runs a very successful skincare line). He actually sold all his photography equipment sometime in the mid-late eighties and continued his career as an art director. I've known many of the technical people who are credited in the book for helping him, and can only say that while he comes off as a technical genius, the reality is that he was very good at calling upon resources around him for the more advanced information, whether he himself understood it or not. Nevertheless, the work in his book spoke for himself, he was an excellent commercial photographer, and his book while predating the digital revolution by a few decades, still stands the test of time (originally printed in 1981, you should look for the slightly updated 1983 3rd edition). Most of the catalogs Richard shot for back then are no longer published, and most of Toronto's catalog studios have long since shut down, the sign of the times for a changing industry.
