How do shows like Family Guy, Futurama and Robot CHicken get away with making pop-culture references and feature celebrity "cameos" and not get sued?
Because satire is protected speech. It's not illegal. Pop-culture references have been made in cartoons since the days of Bugs Bunny, if not earlier...
What about copyright infringement?
I would suggest a cross-post in the Legal forum.
The Simpsons do this too, right?
I'd be interested in the answer as well. But I do recall learning once in a class that satire is protected but I wonder where the line is drawn.
Regardless, the references are hilarious and enjoyable IMHO!
