I'll go with Godfather I and II. How about you?
I believe it would be "Godfather Part II" but then his portrayal of the scheming, perverse Roy Cohn in the HBO series "Angels in America" was a knockout -- argueably the best death scene ever commited to film. I know -- this is TV but if it had been a movie it would have been the one to beat for the Oscar even if the final part of LOTR would probably still have won. Runners up would be "Dog Day Afternoon" and then, possibly, "Scent of a Woman" (although I think he's been better in several more films and that was an Oscar in a bad year for film acting -- I didn't particularly like the film).
He chewed up scenery in "The Devil's Advocate" and I liked that performance, altho' others saw it as hammy.
Godfather II for me, truly brilliant performance, but I think he's good in everthing he does.
"Sea of Love" with Ellen Barkin. Another strong performance.

"an absentee landlord" great line
Haven't seen "Sea of Love" for so many years, it has to go on my NetFlix queue.
scarface!! Scarface!! I absolutley loved him in that movie - he played the part to perfection. but I do hear that in scent of a woman that was his "best role to date." and he wasn't so bad in Angels in America either.
Pacino nailed the nefarious Roy Cohn in "Angels" as I said before and deserved the Emmy and the Golden Globe. Too bad Oscar doesn't honor TV movies -- I think they should as they are mostly made by the same people who make in theater features. Mike Nichols again proved he is one of our most prominant auteurs with "Closer," a devastagingly real examination of love relationships.
For me it would have to be his performances as Michael Corleone in the Godfather Series...but my favorite is Godfather 1.
I also loved Scent of A Woman...especially the scene where he dances the tango with that woman....Wow!! I wished I could dance the tango!! especially with Al Pacino!!!
Its strange because he's ... not what I would regard as handsome, but he's got this look - angry, silent deadly yet most attractive when he is being charming, and I don't know about the other gals here on A2K but I adore him.
Pragmatic, I've never met a woman yet who didn't love Al Pacino!
Ohhh...so I have competition now, hmmm?
(It's getting a bit mushy in here.)

!!
all we need are some:
- kissing sounds
- love songs
- candlelight dinners
- Pacino (30 years ago when he was at the height of fame, money and looks - he's only mortal!!)
hmmm ...
