Smart Switch - Too many wires

Reply Fri 21 Dec, 2018 02:00 pm
I bought a smart switch that has ground, neutral, and a line/load wires in it. (Total of 4 wires) but my light switch only has one black wire and a neutral and ground. Can I still install my smart switch and connect all of the black wires together?

@edgarblythe,
My problem is I dont have enough black wires from the house to connect to my new switch. 2 coming from my new switch and 1 coming from the house. Can I just connect all three blacks together or is there another solution.

@ehenderson18,
they may have dead ended your switch box.
take a picture of the wires in there for us.
a dead end switch uses the white wire as a black, since regular three way switches only need to hot black wires and a ground, the nuetrals are just wire nutted together.

@ehenderson18,
so basically you would have to get another smart switch that does not have a background light, which requires a white neutral wire. Then you would have to get this master and slave smart switch, since you have two switches controlling the same light/lights
