Hi everyone =],

My year 8 drama class is doing a performance of Oliver! the musical. However, my teacher told me to research all about Oliver and the nineteenth century so we could get the costumes, props, etc. right. I have tried going on the net but all my searches came up with practically nothing. =[

Does anyone have any knowledge, sites i should go to or advice to do Oliver? I would really appreciate it! Very Happy

P.S. I am also playing Bill Sykes... got any tips?

I'm amazed you couldn't find anything, because when I Googled "oliver twist" +"charles dickens" I got 143,000 answers!

Try that, and one of the first things you will find out is that the 1850s are actually entirely the wrong period for "Oliver Twist", which was written between 1837 and 1839 (it was published as a serial in a magazine) and was actually intended as a protest against the Poor Law of 1834, a piece of oppressive legislation which sent paupers into the horrible workhouses that feature in the story.

Then you could try Googling for Subjects like "1830s London" and "1830s costume" and I'm sure you'll find plenty.
