Yup...bees being removed from the eaves. I guess it would be easier to diagnose if we could hear the actual sound.

I had this happen and found it to be a power vent in the attic. They work on a thermostat to cool the attic when it gets to a preset temperature. I moved in during the winter in Augusta Ga so it wasn't noticible at night. But come summer, I heard it from when I went to bed until the wee hours of morning.

If you've checked all of your appliances and electrical boxes and can't locate the humming sound source, I would have a handyman come and see if he can find the source. The most concern would be in the electrical system.

Funny that I saw your post. Yesterday, I heard a loud strange humming outside my home. I went to my front yard, walked around and pinpointed the sound as coming from the area of my front yard trees. I turned on my water hose and aimed it at the trees. The humming stopped immediately. It turned out to be circadas. I'd never heard them before. They certainly are loud.

Now I'm wondering if circadas have somehow gotten into the walls of your house.

Turned out to be bees. Pesky bees! Glad you found the source.

Humming in your house?......ME TOO
I have the same thing. It is a new house and every few weeks there is a low frequency humming...not a buzzing that is pretty consistent, and it lasts for a week or so. Then comes back a week or so later. It is all over the house...basement, 1st floor and 2nd floor. I guess it could be coming from outside, but I can't hear it outside and there are other sounds outside that could perhaps be drowning it out. Even if it were outside, what could it possibly be that I would hear it in every room of the house? Even inside rooms that are nowhere near outside walls. It is very annoying!!!!!!
Help me please!!!!

This is an environmental issue happening around the world: put this sentence in your search engine: A Mysterious Sound is Driving People Insane
People in my area here what I hear, a low resonating sound. It sounds like it is in the distance. It is like chasing a rainbow, you can't get to it. We drove around, walked around our area and can't find where it is coming from. After doing research on the net, I found many sites talking about this issue. It is getting worse and there really isn't anywhere to hid from it. Not everyone can hear it. It is a low-frequency sound. Outside, white noise can interrupt the sound waves so it isn't obvious, same goes for inside. But once you are in bed, forget it, no sleeping.

@Ode2u,
I'm sure you've figured it out after 10 years, but I just had this issue yesterday. It was driving me bats. In the end, I figured out it the hum was coming from the wall where the doorbell was mounted. Turns out, the doorbell outside got stuck after being pushed in!

I was hearing an unusual humming sound and tracked it down to the outside cable line being twisted around by the wind and rubbing against its connection to the house.

BTW - has this sound been verified by more than one person?

@Ode2u,
Oh that is spooky. But it is probably just some appliance or wiring gone old since it's been just few months. You could call all kinds of specialists (fridge, electrician...), maybe one can figure out.
